National Biblical Greek Exam--Hacked

Apparently, the National Biblical Greek Exam, a service of Logos Bible Software, has been hacked by Hood3Rob1n of Team Injector. First off--what a silly, pointless and rude thing to do.

Second, this gives me concern abou the security of Logos software. Logos, being installed on my computer, logs into Logos. This, if the Logos site is as insecure as the one that got hacked, would give the above hackers access to my computers if they do the same thing.

Does anyone know if the Logos servers that I log into have the same security vulnerabilities and the National Biblical Greek Exam page?

Well, actually this looks like simple website defacement (which could even be caused by hacking a DNS-server someplace outside of Logos' control), do you know any details whether a Logos-run server has been hacked to the extent of spying on and changing data? This would be the real cheese, as the Logos servers store e.g. credit card numbers, addresses and licences worth in the hundreds/thousands of dollars per user.

I doubt you have anything to worry about. Hacking and defacing a website is the security equivalent of spray painting graffiti on the side of someone's building.

If the hackers can deface the site, then (at the least) they would have access to the databases behind the site. However, that only means the databases needed to run the website, that does NOT mean Logos' customer or other databases.

The particular site attacked was NOT at Bellingham, but like many of the less important Logos sites it is hosted in Utah (there's an imcomplete list here: http://wiki.logos.com/List_of_known_public_Logos_servers ). The sites is Utah tend to be the relatively simple sites that have low-traffic, and - as far as I can tell - don't interact with the main Logos servers in Bellingham. In this case, at this stage, I'd be highly confident that our customer data is safe, and I'm confident that the Bellingham servers are better protected that this one. If you have an account on greekexam.com it's possible that the hackers might have your email address, however.

However, even if the main Logos servers had been hacked (which they haven't), that would not give hackers 'access' to your computer. At worst they could mess about with your Logos data (favourites, clippings, etc.) for which Logos will have a backup anyway. They would not be able to do any harm to any non-Logos data on your computer. Like I said, this hasn't happened anyway - only the greekexam.com site is affected, and that is physically separate from the main Logos servers.

Still it shouldn't have happened, and I hope Logos will make a statement on Monday morning.

Logos user data is not at risk and Logos is taking all necessary steps to ensure security at GreekExam.com. This site was recently acquired and we're working to upgrade the system to our web application standards. For now, the site has been taken offline.

I wouldn't get too concerned about the National Biblica Greek Exam being hacked. I took it several years ago and found that it is entirely too easy in any case.

EDIT: Sorry, I read that too fast and misread it as a result. I was thinking you asked what Logos has to do with the exam rather than what they intend to do with it. At the moment it is down for repairs.

3.5 years later (amazing thread raised from dead) anyone know if NBGE is working? Site seems fine, bought an unlimited pass but I've had no success actually starting the exam. It's possible there was a payment issue (PayPal) but haven't been able to raise any response from support email.
