We noticed you haven't upgraded

A while ago Logos was sending everyone messages that they had not upgraded, even if you had.

This raised two issues, firstly bypassing all your options to force you to read a message whenever you opened Logos which is very unwelcome, then secondly a general message to everyone pretending that it was personal to the recipient and making assertions that were not true.

We were told that this had beena mistake and lessons had been learned, but today they are back again which is slightly depressing as it is clear that lessons have not been learned.

Please stop making me read a message every time I open Logos, especially when you are telling me something that you know is not true.

How would you feel if you found out two weeks or so from now you could have saved (what did they say?) over $600 if you had updated now but no one told you?

Mike, thanks for your feedback. It's very valuable to us. We're sorry some of the targeted messaging that wasn't supposed to reach you did. The data's more complicated than it might seem, and we're working to get it right. We don't like to annoy our customers, so thanks for letting us know when we have.

I'll get with the person running this campaign and make sure we're doing our best not to send irrelevant messaging to the wrong people.

Thanks.  I've found these messages extremely irritating.  I did upgrade as a result, but still got the messages, plus those saying I had not yet updated to L4.Dearly as I love Logos, I'd love you no less if your salesmanship  was less pushy.

I also get the annoying messages.  I am just holding out till Saturday when the messages should disappear.  There should be an option that says "click here if you dont want to receive this message anymore".  I am quite positive that this is not only a solution, but an easy one to implement.  That is why for some, these messages are annoying. It just takes a simple script to prevent those who no longer want to see the message get their wish.

You know . . . one click and that message is gone . . . there are issues today I could only wish were so easy to resolve . . . maybe we all need to get out more . . .

    See THIS POST.

I saw THIS POST.  What this action will do (please correct me if I am wrong) is it will prevent all alerts from coming to the computer.  What if a person wants one alert that comes daily to stop appearing, but wants all other alerts to continue coming?  Will that happen if I indicate a "no" to alerts?  I think a "no" will cut off all alerts, though I may be wrong.

I was responding to someone who claims this pop up is irritating and I agreed it was irritating but I also wrote that it should all be over on Saturday and I  was waiting for Saturday.  My post was written to suggest that it is possible to allow a user to click on the pop up that he/she no longer wants to get that particular pop up.  I am understanding that the reason why that is not a possibility is because Logos does not want it to be a possibility.

I received an email today claiming I did not upgrade to L4.  I did upgrade to L4.  So there are glitches.  But the marketing technique is allowing the glitches to make sure Logos reaches as many people as they can to get as many sales as they can.  That is fine.  Annoying, yes.  But fine everyone once in while.  Saturday will be here soon.

I think you misinterpreted me. I wasn't meaning to SHOUT [:)]. The reason my letters were capitalized is to make sure you knew that it was a hyperlink.

You are correct. I think, however, that most people who are really upset about this just want the advertisements to stop.

The advertisements could have been written better. I can't say for sure, but my guess is that Logos did intend to send you the email. Unless you have the Logos 4 KF Portfolio Base Package, you are still eligible for "discounts" which expire this week. As has been mentioned recently in other threads, "Logos 4" can refer to the app, or to base packages. This can lead to great confusion, in my opinion.

I did not think you were shouting.  Sorry if my writing seemed to indicate that.  Neither was I capitalizing in order to shout, but rather to show the hyperlink in a quick way.  So I never thought you were shouting.

I have upgraded but there is one more possible upgrade which I am not interested in. I already deleted the email so I cannot check it but it did say that I had not upgraded. Anyway, it does not matter.  I am not really upset about the whole thing.  I have written that I am just waiting for Saturday.  But I do agree that others can be and are upset about the marketing technique.  I find it annoying but tolerating because it happens once in a while, not all the time.  If it did happen all the time, I would turn off all communication and if that did not work, I would use L4 without the internet.  But this situation does not exist so far.

Anyone want to do the math?

    Tc -Tm  = Tw

    where:

Tc = time complaining or reading thread of complaints

Tm = time required to identify and close message

Tw = time wasted worrying about message

At least we don't have to physically store and send the message to recycle as we would if it came via mail (oops - for use of us it did [:)]) But still in the overall picture of life in Christ, how much time is the issue worth?

Orthodox Bishop Alfeyev: "To be a theologian means to have experience of a personal encounter with God through prayer and worship."; Orthodox proverb: "We know where the Church is, we do not know where it is not."

You forgot to factor in the time wasted composing a forum post nagging others about their waste of time.[:D]

Being  number 300 and somewhere higher, and presuming Logos ships Perseus this weekend, I'm really wondering about either the 'joy' or the 'whining' in the next few days.

I know this is separate from the advertising problem above, but the same 'date'.

I have images of serenely looking over ancient papyri, something scholars could not easily do even decades ago.

Or, watching my litlle netbook burn up, smoke pouring out of its litte vents, as it indexes 4 gigabytes.
