facing a bloat problem

Why do you want to hide so many books? To unclutter the library view? To free up space? Speed indexing? Are you "permanently" hiding them -- what the current feature is really designed for -- or just getting them out of the way? Would you prefer an "archive" feature that was somehow less intense than hiding them? (Moves them out of searches but makes them available in an "Archive" collection in the Library?)
Instead of hiding most of my books (because it would take too much time). I personally have a collection that is titled "Always exclude" that I use in all of my other collections. This collection contains all of the books that I would hide. I have just under 2,100 resources, and my "Always exclude" has 998 resources. (Yes, I would hide about half of my library if I could).

In the past we've had users hide books and then forget they hid them, then call customer service and want to know where they are, etc.
These days, I hide nearly everything I touch. I hid my parking lot ticket & car keys pretty effectively earlier today...nearly had to call customer service...except I hid the phone number...

I have not yet received the Perseus collection (I just ordered the
classics) but when I do get it I will only be using the English
translations and will want to hide all the others so they do not turn up
in any operations I perform such as search, passage guide etc. I also
don't want to see them in my library. If your idea of archiving will
make it so that those resources are, practically speaking, non-existent
in operations we perform and yet still be indexed and ready to be used
if we decide to unarchive them then this could be a good solution. However, those who do not have alot of hard drive space may wish to delete those resources entirely. Perhaps both a hide feature as we currently have (with the ability to hide multiple books) and an archive feature would work. You could keep the hide feature in program settings (to prevent people from accdientally hiding things) and put the archive feature in the library?BTW Am I the only one who has not yet received the Perseus collection?

No. Dan said it might take upwards of three weeks or more.

Sorry Nevada, but that won't work. The classics collection is the classics collection, not a Greek/Latin collection of classics and an English collection of classics. As the song from Oklahoma goes "With me it's all or nothin'."

George - Re-reading Tim's post, I think you are right. The collections I ordered were all in english... except for the ones in "southern."

George is one of the most brilliant and therefore, rarely wrong, if ever, except when it comes to interlinears. [:D] We love you George!

I don't know about being that brilliant — I'm #2 so I try harder. [;)] Rush proclaims that he is right 99.6% of the time. I wrote to him telling him he could dramatically improve that percentage if he were to convert to a PC. [:D]

In my experience with users, they seldom have problems with disk space. Indexing speed is only a minor issue since we got incremental indexing.
Frank, you are looking at the situation very nearsightedly. Most people's computers do not have work-critical data. Most people don't have backups. I for one cannot afford to have my computer go down. If a person creates backups regularly, every 100MB is astronomical considering compounding backups. This mentality is yet another reason why Logos "free engine" is not free. They (Logos) expect users to buy/run a recent computer with tons of storage and memory INSTEAD of designing their program to be frugal in terms of resources. This is reason one.
Reason two is the top-most UserVoice request: OPTIMIZE THE SOFTWARE!!! Have we heard the commitment on it from Logos? By giving due diligence to design, Logos can help users "shed pounds" from their libraries, thus optimizing speed, memory usage, convenience, etc.

I have not listened to Rush for many years. I have found, however, that most people who make such claims cannot honestly say that they have listened to his show in context. Now a days I listen to NPR. I regularly listen to people I don't agree with. It would be hard for me to say that they are NEVER correct.

I have had to listen to him (FYI...I called it tortured). I will give him credit where he deserves it; he is a very good entertainer.

Part of the problem which results in L4 being a resource hog is that customers want every little tweek they can think of. If it were a bare bones program it would be much more frugal with resources, but most users would be unhappy.

I'm sorry I mentioned him — even as an aside. It seems that there is always some leftist out there to take offense. Please drop the subject.
