CP: Classic Commentaries and Studies Collections Pricing Strategy

Sometimes presenting relevant data in a digestible manner can unite us. While these are merely my suggestions, I'm hoping they'll help us CP fans get some of these great commentary collections into production sooner. Please discuss further strategy or what you may find to work better. Often times enthusiasm for CP resources comes in waves. Here's to one of them!
Classic Commentaries and Studies on Genesis (22 vols.) - 8,132 pgs; Current peak $40 @ ~91%; I might guess we will be seeing this one out of CP by the end of October. New bidders keep bidding at the peak ($40); small possibility of reaching $30. ($10 increments)
Classic Commentaries and Studies on Exodus (21 vols.) - 6,309 pgs; Current peak $40 @ ~10%; Encouraged to continue to bid at $40 much like the Genesis collection. ($10 increments)
Classic Commentaries and Studies on Job (18 vols.) - 6,330 pgs; Current peak $25 @ ~50%; May stall before reaching the top. Encouraged to up bid to $40 with a possible drop to $35 or $30 after crossing the line ($5 increments)
Classic Commentaries and Studies on Psalms (35 vols.) - 15,773 pgs; Current peak $30 @ ~33%; Definitely trending underpriced. Recommend a $50 bid ($10 increments)
Classic Commentaries and Studies on Daniel (21 vols.) - 6,167 pgs; Current peak $50 @ ~40%; Looks as if bids are split between $30-50; $30 bids and new bidders suggested to bid $40 ($10 increments)
Classic Commentaries and Studies on Luke (24 vols.) - 9,169 pgs; Current peak $50 @ ~28%; Price seems right. Lack of popularity currently could be the problem. Suggest bidding $40 or $50 ($10 increments)
Classic Commentaries and Studies on Romans (32 vols.) - 14,377 pgs; Current peak $40 ~52%; Guessing high popularity on this collection; Suggest increasing bids to/placing new bids at $45 with expectation of falling to $40 due to popularity ($5 increments)
Classic Commentaries and Studies on Galatians (24 vols.) - 4,014 pgs; Current peak $40 ~50%; Probably less popular than other collections, yet correctly priced for now. Suggest $40 bids with hope of dropping to $30 after crossing the line. ($10 increments)
Classic Commentaries and Studies on Revelation (27 vols.) - 12,448 pgs; Current peak $160! ~52%; Good test showing how CP bidding affects progress. High bidding most likely causing new bidders to shy away (as suggested by others). Recommend following new peak at $50 with hope of reaching $40 possible. ($10 increments)

I put a $40 on the Revelation set. As much as I would like to have Elliot's Horae Apocalypticae, there's no way I'm going to pay $160 for it. I hope it comes down.

I changed the bidding to $50 as suggested - I see a second peak arising.

in another thread I just learned that some of these volumes are abridged ("edited for length").
Thank heavens, I blew this (see below) - I'll claim its the result of still being on my first cup of coffee.

No that's not these commentaries. We were talking about the Crossway Classic Commentaries in that thread. They are found here: http://www.logos.com/product/820/the-crossway-classic-commentary-collection.
Logos' "Classic Commentaries and Studies" collections are not the same thing. I hear you breathing a sigh of relief.
(And yes, I have no idea why I said "edited for length" instead of "abridged". [:P])

Thanks for the reminder with links...
I'm now in on Exodus & Corinthians, raised my bid to $50 on Psalms & Luke to make sure I don't miss, but I stayed at $50 on Revelation. I'll pass if it goes for $160. Sure hope a BUNCH of folks jump in at $50 on that one... Was already in on the others. Thanks again!
Many blessings to you.

I'm wondering just how many folks really bid $160 on the Revelation set. If only George Somsel would drop his bid, we would see the $50 peak go green.

You DO realize of course that if everyone who bid $160 lowered their bids to $50 that it would NOT increase the $50 peak at all - all those $150 bids have already been factored into the $50 price. What it WOULD do, is lower the peak at $150 making the $50 the high one. If none of those $150 bids come down, a lot more people will have to bid at the $50 level to make it surpass the peak at $150.

Yes, I realize that. What some (many?) bidders do not realize is they can bid $50 and there is a good chance they can get it for that. The red line "your bid will likely fail" probably makes many walk away without placing a bid. A better way for the highest bidders to speed up the production may be to lower that green bar to entice more bids, then when it nears completion they can raise it up a little.

you know, Super Tramp, this is one case where I refuse to be my brother's keeper. Whether I bid zero or fifteen-zero, I bid the amount I am willing to pay. If my brothers are swayed by factors other than math that's their problem. On the other hand, if someone asks me nicely to but a Coptic source I am unlikely to learn to read but I think is needed in Logos, I'll lend a helping bid.

wellllll, here's to hopin' it will (Revelation set) will hit $50, so you can afford the others. Matthew could be pretty important to eschatology studies. [;)] I have most of the volumes I want/need for Revelation in Logos and in hardcopy. Can't afford to spring for $160. But I get you: we place a premium on what is important/vital to our studies!

This 'Revelations' resource bidding is interesting to watch.
I don't have a dog in that hunt.
But it looks a lot like a big expensive dog is slowing down the younger faster dogs.
Don't think the hunt's going to go.

yeah, what's up with that? the 160 price has gotten a big boost lately. I really thought the $50 would catch on. of course, it would take a lot more $50 dollar bids to make up the difference. I'm not getting the CP if it goes for 160. or even 120. or 80. But I'd consider $50. I just don't know that much about several of the authors/books in the collection, even with their write ups--some of which were helpful.

Michael, the '~' in front of my numbers is shorthand for "your guess is as good as mine" [:D]. I hope I'm relatively close though
It has been interesting to look at the correlation between Facebook 'Likes', the times Logos has mentioned the commentary collections, and the movement of each collection's peak pricepoints.
My latest update hopes to incorporate how the collections are progressing in relation to each other while past updates looked to better visualize Facebook 'Likes' compared to pricepoint/% progress
[upteenth edit]
- BTW I plan to continue to update the list every ten days as new offerings seem to come out weekly. If anyone has a creative addition to the stats or something they think would be interesting please suggest away!

Thanks Paul! I appreciate all of the work you do keeping the list up to date. As a relative new comer to studying the Bible looking to increase my knowledge and understanding of the scriptures, I'm in on all of the classic commentaries. Your list helps me to keep track of where they are all are at in the CP process.
Is there a correlation between FB "likes" and movement? If there is, maybe we could organize a FB "like" day.

[FB 'Likes' = 44]Since the demand curve falls sharply after the going price of 40, I think increasing existing bids won't change much - unless nearly everybody who is in with 40 or less does it. While $40 is at 60%, $45 is at 20% or so...
I think, new bidders need to be attracted. Maybe it would be more helpful to single out this resource in its own thread (or even a blog post) -
One argument could be the $40 - that's over fourteen-thousand pages at the price of one current some-hundred pages commentary!
Maybe it would help to compile some info on the authors and their theological positions (conservative/liberal, calvinist/lutheran/wesleyan), and how these works were regarded by contemporaries - Spurgeon's list comes to mind - and by subsequent scholarship.
Just some ideas...
Have joy in the Lord!

Just a thought, but perhaps when many of these sets have cleared, the less popular ones or the stalled ones (and I'm thinking Revelation) might re-gain some interest.

In Update 5 we did see the $160 peak stop for the first time. Maybe it just took a couple weeks to show it. I've thought about tracking the second peak in the Revelations collection but I assume it will prevail eventually.

Time for another update? If it could be done in Biblical order, then that would be even better as it would show books of the Bible still not yet covered.
Thanks to the Pauls for this. Very helpful.

Thanks Andrew - though it's Paul Newsome who's been doing all the work here. I attempted an update when I thought he might be getting weary but the colours didn't come out, so he did his much better version a few hours afterwards!
I think the way he's doing it probably works better than Bible books in order because it shows people which collections are about to pass the finish line and so generates interest in them which should help push them through. I reckon there are probably about another 10 collections to come out though if you're wondering: Joshua, Samuel, Kings, Chronicles, Ecclesiastes/Proverbs, minor prophets (I can imagine what a headache they're having wondering how to split them!), Hebrews, epistles of Peter&Jude, John's epistles.

Thanks, Paul C. You may well be right about the ordering, especially now you've provided the list of remaining books to cover.

Wow, Paul, when I checked yesterday there were a bucn added that I'd missed! Am now in on all this series, though whenever they were valued at more than about $2/book my bids may fail. Thanks for reminding us on these...
