NASB77 vs NASB95

All of this conversation about bible versions has me wondering......... If we could have polls within the forum. For instance as to the preferred bible version among all Logos users, favorite commentaries, etc.

I have been finding some very old logos items on that famous online store that starts with an A and also on that auction site. Very real possibility of finding it.
James, your post clearly points out just why the Logos forum policy is ridiculous. I love the way you worded it by the way. This discussion does not compete with Logos in the least. It is held by people committed to Logos, wanting to further the usefulness of their Logos product, and who support Logos with both their money and time. I understand why some rules are needed, but again, I wish Bob was running the forum policy. The way people have to tread lightly does not leave people with a good taste in their mouth for Logos and that is certainly not the purpose of these forums (nor do I think people should actually need to tread this lightly).

As I said, I don't think a publisher today could get permission to produce the '77 versions and by that I mean a fresh permission that they didn't somehow already have. This is my opinion of what may be going on. Only Lockman knows. But the existence of print copies today is not evidence against what I was attempting to say. On we on the same page?
Mark - I did a quick search and found that several other Bible Software companies, including free ones, were still selling the 77 version alongside the 95 version. Some even had both bundled together. Also T_ N_ has the Open Bible in the 77 version. Since they have done alot with Logos in the past, could someone at Logos approach the subject of getting the 77 version back into sale? If Lockman gives permission to free Bible Software sellers, would they to Logos? There seems to be a demand for it.

Yeah, I agree.
I even felt a little silly when I was writing that post. [:)]

Interesting. I don't know what could be done. Logos has stated it can no longer sell the '77 version, but we haven't been told why not if an effort were made whether that could change.
I would suggest a suggestion be made through the suggestion forum to this effect.
I have the '77 version in Logos but really use it infrequently. I have bound study Bible in the '77 NASB that I sometimes bring out. When I do it is handy to have the older version on Logos to follow along with. Handy, but not essential. I wonder if I'd buy it if it were available in Logos and I didn't already have it?

I recieved this email this morning from Lockman,
Hi Bob,
I just contacted Logos about this and we are now in the process of granting them permission for the NASB 1977 edition. I believe it should be available for purchase from them very soon.
Thank you for letting us know about your desire for this edition of the NASB in the Logos software.

I was expecting to have to purchase the 1977 version. However, I just installed a copy of the New American Bible (discussed in another thread) and discovered that I had both the 1977 and the 1995 versions in my library. The 1977 version is simply called "New American Standard Bible". The 1995 version is called "New American Standard Bible: 1995 Update".
Just a reminder to double check your library before you place an order.

Floyd

Floyd, are you saying you purchased and installed a New American Bible and got it and the NASB 77? What product is this?
Thanks!

I think that Floyd simply discovered the NASB in his Library as he was looking for the NAB.
I believe this is the thread he was talking about:

Neither product contains the NASB.

Correct. I knew that I had the 1995 version of NASB - no idea that 1977 was in my library. This evening I was verifying that the NAB had installed and I stumbled on the 1977 version of the NASB. Not sure when or how I acquired it.
My point was to double check your current library before placing an order for one version or the other.

I love the Nasb. I was wondering if the 77 version had the extra section in Ps 145 between vs 13 and 14. Ps 145 is a acrostic psalm each verse starts with a letter of the hebrew alphabet. The hebrew alphabet has 22 letters yet ps 145 has 21 verses. The missing verse was found in the dead sea scrolls. It has been inserted into the Niv, Esv, and the Nlt. I was looking at my nasb95 last night and noticed the section was not there. I would not think that they would put it in the 77 version then take it out in the 95 but I dont have the 77 version to compare to find out. I am not to sure how much difference there is between the two version. I have never heard of a version that adds a verse then takes it out, but there are many things I have never heard of.

Man, that disapoints me... The nas keyword study bible was my first real study. I was rasised mormon, so the only bible I had growing up was the Lds kjv. (the only difference between theirs and any other kjv is their cross references go to the Pearl of great price, d&c and the book of mormon) but it was not a study bible. When I am not using logos, my favorite is my keyword... I wonder why they dont fix that sort of stuff in their translation. I would think that section would be unamously added to all translations based on the find in the scrolls. The nasb is a superb translation !

I guess it's like getting a law passed...............takes years or decades.

How do I get the NASB77 in my library? I have been using Logos since Version 2.0 Level 3, but can not find it in my library. Any ideas?

Version 2.0 Level 3 did include the NASB77. In Logos 4 it is called the NASB. The 1995 version is the NAS. So first be sure you looked for the right item. If you don't have it, could it have been you did not synchronize your license files with Logos back in Libronix days? Whether you did or didn't, you'll probably need to call Customer Service about your license file.
