NASB77 vs NASB95

3 years ago I paid $50.00 for the NASB77 so that I could use the Compare Bible Versions tool within L3. Now L4 does not recognize NASB77 as a bible so I cannot use Text Comparison with it. Also there is no image icon for the NASB77. Anything I can do about this? I love the Text Comparison Tool and it shines with this type of comparison.
With L3 it works great.

Wow. Thanks for pointing that out. I didn't know I still had it. It doesn't show up in the library when I type "nasb", and I thought Logos4 was ignoring it. The files (at least the ones I have) are still in Logos 2 format.
Will this be converted to Logos4 format? Please?

Not a NASB user, but notice that this is listed as a Monograph. This means it will not play well with some Logos 4 features.

I hadn't noticed all that. I, too, occasionally compare the two texts, so would like it tagged as a Bible so it can show up as such in Bible oriented tools.

Logos can't sell that version anymore. But I do hope they will convert it to Logos4 version and correctly tag it and supply it on their servers for those of us that have a license.

Logos, can we get the NASB77 to be marked as a bible?

I agree, I want to use the NASB77 as a Bible.

I can open it by typing NASB. But if I enter NASB in the Text Comparison Tool, it changes what I type to NASB95.
If it is really a "Text Comparison" and not a "Bible Comparison Tool", we ought to be able to choose any resource for comparison.

In Logos 3 I could compare NASB77 to NASB95. I often did this to see what they changed in the newer translation. Sometimes it was quite surprising! For some reason even though it is wrongly tagged as a Monograph rather than a Bible, Logos 3 allows selecting it for Bible Comparison. Even if Lockman will not allow Logos to distribute NASB77 any more, Logos could have an exception list to accommodate a few wrongly tagged resources like this in the Text Comparison, as they apparently did in Logos 3. Either that or they could make it a true Text Comparison tool and allow you to compare any texts, perhaps with an option to list All Books, only Bibles, or a Collection of the user's choice.

that would be one way of doing it, but am sure?? logos can/could override/correct the metadata

The Logos 4 version of the NASB ('77) is now available, and was included in last week's update (http://community.logos.com/forums/t/11573.aspx). There were still some issues with the metadata as of this morning, but it has now been updated, and development says it will be automatically integrated into the library in the background. To get it ASAP, restart once (and wait a few minutes) for the metadata downloading, then restart a second time to propagate the change to all internal DBs. I've tested this and it is now working as expected.

Is there any way for those of us who don't have a license for NASB77 to get one?

If this has been previosuly answered I apologize, and I know Logos can't sell the NASB77 any more, but is it available anywhere else? I hope this isn't a violation of policy, but since it isn't sold by Logos I thought it wasn't.
Thanks!

You would have to find an older copy of a Logos collection that included the original NASB somewhere. There is also an NAS Electronic Bible Library that contains the NASB and originally it may have come out before the change-over to the new NASB. I don't know. The collection today has the current version. A bookstore somewhere might have a dusty collection somewhere or you might get lucky on that auction site. Other than that, the NASB77 hasn't been available for a long time in Logos format and you are unlikely to easily find a copy.

I have been finding some very old logos items on that famous online store that starts with an A and also on that auction site. Very real possibility of finding it.
I looked and have not seen it, if you do can you let me know? Logos doesn't see any more so I don't think this violates their policy...

No. That dates to 2001 or 2002 or so?? The NASB95 was out then.

Mark is right. I jumped on the Logos bandwagon with Series X (ah those cloudy CDs [:)]) only NASB95 was available then.

So Logos can unlock (sell the license to ) the 77 version which is on a Cd they have already sold in the past, but they cannot presently sell the 77 version and it's license?
I unlocked my Cd version about 8 years ago.

I unlocked my Cd version about 8 years ago.
The stuff that came on the old Logos 2.0 cd was unlocked by the installer, so basically the CD came with the license (there wasn't any online unlocking then). Which means that if a retailer bought the CD from Logos, it was buying an licensed copy of all the books that the CD would install. Therefore if you buy that CD you get those licenses.
It's not like today with the media-only CDs and DVDs.

But I bought the CD with the NASB77 locked, and had to pay Logos $50.00 several years after I bought the Cd to have it unlocked.

You did, but in some cases the collection came with the NASB bundled with the other resources and a single unlock code unlocked everything. That was my case. I got the NASB with a Logos library collection.
If one could find an old collection with an unlock code they should be able to unlock that set with the NASB included. If someone had a situation like yours with an old locked NASB on it they could not get it unlocked for a fee today as you did.

I checked my licenses in v3 and my NASB was listed as an individual unlock ( I started buying Logos resources piecemeal until the Series X collections came out, and those piecemeal purchases included the NASB and NIV). Oct 1997 is the start date on my Logos account, so that's probably when I got the NASB.

That is the question, indeed. I came up blank on the A site and the e site earlier tonight. You just know there are a bunch of people who no longer use Logos who have that CD sitting in a drawer somewhere. How to find them?

Here's another question. Why would Lockman refuse to sell the license to the 77 version today?
After all there are several other publishers who sell their first and revised versions today.

I wondered that myself. Especially since you can still get the original NASB in the Thompson Chain Reference Bible and the Key Word Study Bible. If I were to speculate, I'd bet it has something to do with money and licensing.

I am wondering if Publishers are not wanting to work with Logos like they do with others. There are some resources available in many other programs that are not in Logos. This is but one example.

I think with the demand I have seen here on the forums, the NasB77 will come available for those that don't own it soon.

I stand corrected! It couldn't be profit!
I'm still baffled then as to why they won't grant the license.

It might be the scale of the profit, or that they don't really want to have two different versions of their work for sale at the sale time, perhaps because it would seem they weren't fully committed to the revision.
The fact it can still be had in a couple of study versions may have to do with the original contract between those publishers and Lockman and nothing to do with what Lockman prefers (which may be what Logos is encountering).
I doubt any print publisher would get permission today to start producing copies of the '77 edition even if people wanted them.

To Mark A. Smith and Dominick -
I hate to be the one to tell you both this, but you are wrong! The NASB is still available in the 1977 version in print form. AMG is the publishing company. Mark, please check your facts before "stating" them. My wife just bought me a copy of it the other day as a Valentine's gift. The AMG Key Word Study Bible has the 1977 version of the NASB text.

Perhaps you jumped into the conversation without checking what has already been said. I never said the '77 version was no longer in print. In fact I know it is. Both Shawn and Todd pointed that out earlier in this posting.
Apparently you didn't understand my statement that I didn't think a publisher could get permission to print it today. I did not mean it couldn't be published today (it is) but that no new publisher could get permission to do so at this point. My guess is that those legacy publishers have contracts with Lockman that precede the change-over and they have been able to keep them active. As I said, I don't think a publisher today could get permission to produce the '77 versions and by that I mean a fresh permission that they didn't somehow already have. This is my opinion of what may be going on. Only Lockman knows. But the existence of print copies today is not evidence against what I was attempting to say. On we on the same page?
