Logos 4 crashes before loading library
Hi George
Sorry you are having trouble but we will need a bit more information before we can help you.
I did a complete restart on one of my Macs a couple of days ago including a reinstall of the Beta and a complete download of the library without a hitch.
Is yours a new installation, a new switch to the Beta or a sudden appearance of the problem on an existing installation?
What do you mean by before loading the library?
Is it before downloading starts, before indexing finishes or on startup and opening the library window?
If you want one of the volunteers to have a look at the Crash problem from the inside you will need to post your logs - see Troubleshooting for the Mac in the wiki for instructions.
Perhaps is might help if you provided a screen shot of the situation just after the crash.
Hello Mike,
Thanks for the quick reply. My problem is with an existing installation that started overnight after a defrag. When I try to start Logos 4, I get the signing in window, then for a few seconds the "Preparing your library" window that then cancels out and I end up back at the desktop. That is a far as things go.

Curious about defrag ? Apple support article includes defrag not needed on OS X for most users => http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1375?viewlocale=en_US

Wonder about enabling diagnostic logging, restarting Mac, then launch Logos 4 Mac. If crash again, please reply and attach zip file with diagnostic logs.
wiki Mac Troubleshooting => How to Report Bugs in Logos 4 Mac includes link to 5504.Logos4MacLogging.app.zip (display logging setting, then optionally change); also links to Logos Log Scribe (create zip file of Logging folder with copy of console messages)
By the way, could move nlog.config to trash (no longer used by Logos 4 Mac).
Keep Smiling [:)]
Never having had to do a 'defrag' myself and having checked out apples advice it would seem that things on your hard drive must have become pretty dire before resorting to that solution. Logos does need a fair bit of overhead for any indexing and updating - it is a pretty disc intensive application.
Without being able to access your logs and purely from the information that you have given I would guess that the 'defrag' software has corrupted or misplaced one of your files and that a reinstall of the logos engine may be the answer.
I would try a straight download and install of the engine before deleting any files as this is a fairly quick operation and my be all that is necessary to straighten things out. After that you could try uninstalling and reinstalling all the files.
If you want an analysis of your logs you will need to follow the instructions linked by KS4J in his post.
