iPhone 4s unable to download offline resources

Hi I've been unable to download most of my offline resources since upgrading to iPhone 4s a wee while ago.
became aware of this when I wanted to use my ESV when off line - it wasn't there. when i got back home i saw that only a couple of my off line bibles had been transferred. So i tried downloading. error. multiple times. reset phone, even went back to factory reset. still no joy.
my iPad works fine - both are running iOS 5.0.1
another strange thing - i have some olive tree bible bibles, and have the same problem! only a couple of bibles and errors when i try to download.
help?

Joe - Downloaded resources do not "transfer," but must be downloaded on each device. If you are having troubles downloading the resources, have you tried using a good wifi connection?

Hi,
understand they need to be downloaded onto each device. had them on my 'old' iPhone 4! thought re-syching when I got my new phone would have done it, but realised that it does not transfer and each needed re-downloading.
thats when my problems started...
and yep, i've tried in multiple wi-fi settings. my own connection is cable 10MB, runs mostly at 9ish. so wi-fi not the problem.

Hi Joe. It sounds like something is out of kilter with your phone. I have a 4S and it downloads my Logos resources just fine.

Hi Mark, error message is LLS:1.0.165.
Bill - thought that might be the case, but having gone back to factory reset, not sure what else to do!
thanks for support!

Joe, have you contacted Logos technical support? Maybe someone there can help you sort this out.

I'm assuming you've restored from backup after the factory reset. If that's the case then you may also want to try uninstalling the Logos app, then reinstalling. By doing so you'll lose all your downloaded books, and any customisations you've made, however.

Joe - Have you tried using a different wifi connection. Perhaps there is something at your location blocking you from downloading. Also, you can upload the logs here if you would like. Under "more," select "send support info." This will open an email. Send the email to yourself, and post the log here.

another error - LLS:1.0.50.

The error messages are timeouts and "network connection lost". It might be worth trying to download the following file
http://resources.assets.logos.com/lls_1.0.710/2011-11-29T14_28_29Z/ESV.logos4
on your desktop (using the same WiFi as your iPhone), and then using Safari on your iPhone. You won't be able to do anything with it, but it will be interesting to see if it completes. As you're also having trouble in BibleReader as well, it does point to some network errors rather than Logos errors.

Hi Mark,
yep, your conclusion is correct - able to download on my mac, but fails on the safari on my iPhone. pretty strange as the network is not a problem on the mac, so iPhone issue....
sigh...

I'm not sure what to suggest now. You could try googling your Safari error message. You could also try checking your Profiles (Settings/General/Profiles) to see if there's anything there that shouldn't be, and Proxy Servers (Settings/WiFi/{Network Name}/HTTP Proxy).

Hi Mark,
just spend 3 hrs of my life that I won't get back talking to apple - mostly with an advanced agent who was thorough and knew what he was talking about.
we went through a LOT of steps to narrow down the problem, including deleting all of my 163 apps...
to cut a long story short, it seems that both the Olive Tree and Logos apps are defaulting to 3G (or even GPRS!) and not using the wi-fi connection. This is weird as the iPad downloads OK - of course it's wi-fi only.
i wonder if this is a wider problem but no-one has noticed as they have not resintalled the app? if you switch onto airplane mode and then switch wi-fi back on and try and download a new book for off-line reading on your iPhone 4s, does it work?

Joe - Have you tried doing a restore on the iPhone (by this I mean a complete restore of everything, OS & all)? I have a 3G iPad and am not experiencing your troubles (sorry!).

Hi,
yep! i've tried a complete restore.
i also set it back to factory settings, and set up as a new phone, then restored from back up.
now, I set up as a new phone and installed the apps fresh - on a 'clean' phone and still have the same issues...
very frustrating...

I'm not sure I believe Apple in this case - that scenario doesn't explain why the download didn't complete in Safari on the iPhone. Anyway, there's an easy way to test it. Turn off cellular data (Settings/General/Network) and try it again.
Did you find anything in profiles or in proxy server?

Mark,
the agent was VERY insistent that it was something to do with the app. when i told him about your suggestion re downloading the link he said that safari on the iPhone would not download this - can you download it on your iPhone?
i turned off cellular data and it failed to download the off air resources - as before, it failed, both in the app and also in safari on iPhone
thanks for your help!

Yes, I can.

If it fails part way through the download, and cellular data is turned off, that proves the failure isn't because Logos is trying to do the download over the cellular connection.

I am having the same exact problem. Cannot download any offline resources. Tried airplane mode, tried turning off cellular. My 4s won't even let me try to download. All my other apps work fine. This is frustrating....

Jeffrey,
Can you start a new thread please, and post your logs (there's instructions about how to get your logs further up this thread). It's likely that you problem will have a different cause, and if so a separate thread will be more straightforward.

I'm with O2 in the uk, tho not sure of relevance as the problem is wifi not working in this very narrow sense.

mark, why a new thread? seems like the same problem?
Jeffrey, i suggest you try marks idea on page one of this thread and download the file to your iPhone.

Joe if you issue is it switching to 3G, as a workaround you can disable all cellular data connections so your phone will only be able to connect via WIFI.
Turn Cellular Data on or off: Go to Settings > General > Network, then turn Cellular Data on or off. (see the heading Network on page 148 of the iOS5 user guide)
or the following Apple Support article. http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4203
This will then at least allow you to download the files via WIFI. Once done, you can then turn cellular data back on for normal 3G usage.
Also note latest version of Logos iPhone software includes feature of resuming downloads so make sure you have upgrade to this..that way if you have further problems you won't have to download all the way from the beginning but be able to resume download of the file.

It's possible it's the same problem, but it's not certain because (a) it sounds as though the resources don't even start downloading, (b) there is no report of other download failures, and (c) your error is a rare error. It can get really complicated (even dangerous) if people make suggestions as to what to do when there are two separate issues, and it's easy for those of use who are helping to get confused (was it Joe who we asked to try X, or was it Jeffrey?) so unless we're certain that the problem is the same, it's best to have two separate threads.

Joe - What wifi connections have you tried? I still think that it is an issue with a router someplace. Also, what part of the world do you live?

This is really bizarre, Joe. Have you had trouble downloading any other apps via WiFi? Maybe you said it already, but have you tried downloading the app via 3G, turning off the WiFi?
It seems the culprit is the wireless router. To say you are frustrated would be putting it mildly, I'm sure.

I had a similar issue with my wifi. I changed the DNS settings to Googles Public DNS 8.8.8.8 and my wifi woes were sorted. I too am on o2 in the uk

Hi,
yep, this is very frustrating. there is no problem with my wi-fi. I am able to download off line resources on my iPad - same network. I have no problems with other apps on my iPhone 4s (apart from Olive tree-see later). my daughter came home at the weekend with an iPhone 4 & i tried to download with her phone - on my network - and it downloaded the app and the off-line esv no problem at all!
i've tried on my wi-fi (virgin), and on a friends wi-fi (BT) - neither works.
very strange. I'm having the same problem with olive tree bibles - they don't download (no error messages tho, they just eventually time out).
I'm on O2 in the UK, my broadband is virgin 10MB cable connection - fast and stable. no problems with iPad or mac, or in general iPhone.
I've tried switching cellular data off to force the phone to only use the wi-fi.
i tried 208.67.222.222, 208.67.220.220 and Google’s public DNS servers: 8.8.8.8, 8.8.4.4 - nothing
iphone 4s dns settings: 4.168.4.100, 194.168.8.100
changed to 8.8.8.8, 8.8.4.4error lls:1.0.60.followed by message 'unable to download english standard version'switched onto airplane mode to cahnge DNS again and got the error messgages below:LLS:1.0.50.LLS:1.0.681.LLS:1.0.29.1.27.LLS:NIV2011LLS:1.0.20LLS:1.0.60LLS:TSK2008LLS:HCSBHARMONYGOSLLS:1.0.29.1.28LLS:1.0.108Then tried to change DNS as below:208.67.222.222, 208.67.220.220no joy!0 -
Jeffery,
you still having the problem?
I just spoke to my apple advanced support tech (we're on first name terms now!) and he indicated that it may be something to do with api calls (i may have got that wrong!) on how the A5 chip calls for downloaded resources, as the iPhone 4 works fine, the iPad 2 works fine - but the iPad 2 is wi-fi only and has no cellular carrier settings that seem to be getting in the way for the 4s.

Thank you for your patience with us in this. We have been looking into the issue but have been unable to reproduce those results so far.
We are continuing to investigate and will be in touch if we need any additional information.
Of course, if you see any new behavior please don't hesitate to post it to this thread.
Thanks,
