Accessibility Question

We have an individual in our church who is visually impaired. I am trying to find a way to provide him with access to the presentation slides on an ipad. He has limited sight, but can see enough to read if things are in large print close to his face. I am planning on letting him use an ipad tomorrow that is logged into the remote app. I think I can give him access to view the slides without giving him control of the slides. Is there another way to do it? I think this could revolutionize church for those who are visually impaired. It would give them the opportunity to follow along with the lyrics on songs they don't know, and see the sermon slides.

Appreciate your thoughts on this idea.

Hi Dave,

I am not sure that there is something which perfectly suits your needs, but the present options included,

1. Following the presentation via the Logos app.

You will be able to view any content which has signals attached via the Logos app. The text size of the Bible verses can, obviously, be increased. I cannot see any obvious way of increasing the text size for other signal content. Thinking this through, it would, I suppose, be possible to duplicate the text content of all slides as signals to enable all content to be viewed. This would be faffy and you would still be stuck with the text size as it is. I have not tried this to see how well it works.

2. Following the presentation via the Proclaim app.

You will probably have already noted that it is possible to preview the presentation from the home screen of the Proclaim act without taking control. You will not be strictly following the presentation and so will need to navigate the slides manually. Also, again, I cannot see anyway of increasing the text size via settings. The only way I can see to increase the text size is by increasing the font size in the presentation (which will effect everyone).

3. Future plans for an onstage viewer.

There is discussion elsewhere which suggests that Logos are considering a further app which will enable a display mode for onstage. Without seeing this, it is difficult to anticipate whether it will be of use. I imagine that the limitations with the text size in the Proclaim app will similarly be an issue with the planned app, but this is just my presumption.

Other people may have ideas regarding a workaround.

The remote app does not support a read only view at this time. I believe we will be implementing something like this in a future release.

Thought I would post an update after yesterday's service and our attempt to use the iPad for accessibility for the blind in our service. Although he had to navigate the service slides on his own, he said it was the first time in years he had actually been able to follow along with the service. His comments made my day. We used the Proclaim remote app and instead of setting it to control the presentation, we put it in preview mode. When the read only comes out it would be even better, but this is a great solution for the time being.
