proclaim or propresenter 4/5??

Hi, I'm just trying to figure out what the benefit of using Proclaim over ProPresenter 4/5 is?

I understand people within a group can edit a Proclaim presentation from anywhere but I don't like the fact you can't save presentations or create backups/templates so I don't think that's necessarily a good thing. It only takes a stupid moment of one member of the team to delete hours of work on a single presentation.

I'd love to keep using Proclaim as I've really liked the trial, but PP4 and soon to be 5 just seem way more advanced.

Any advice or comments?

It is true that Proclaim is in its infancy, and it certainly has its fair share of issues to be ironed out. However, there are some advantages over more robust options, at least for some. These include:

1. Cloud centric. Content collaboration and presentation flexibility are at the core, not add-ons.

2. Less is more. For those that don't need or want every bell and whistle, Proclaim provides a streamlined workflow (or at least is getting there...) and has a much lower learning curve than other offerings.

3. Agile deployment. Since updates are forced and platform parity is maintained, you don't have to worry about who is running what version of what. Everyone will always be running the same version with access to the same resources.

For many churches, and at this point I believe our church will be included, this is a really good option to go with. I certainly don't mind having more features (give me Premiere, Final Cut or Avid any day over Windows Movie Maker and iMovie), but it is nice to be able to have a team immediately pick up a new presentation software and get to work without a lot of investment in training.

Wow! Thanks for the tip on using ProPresenter. Not being able to save templates was driving me crazy!!!! Seriously Proclaim, until then, I just can't rely on your product.

Hi Christian,

I can understand some of your frustrations with Proclaim, and to be honest, our church is evaluating whether we will continue to use it. However, it isn't to difficult to create a template in Proclaim as long as you are OK with not calling it a template.

Create a service that you would like to be the 'template' for future services. The next time you need to use that template, simply locate the service to be replicated in the 'open' menu, right click on the service and choose duplicate. Now you have a copy of your original service. You can even create dummy services named something template for each major format you need, and then doing a search for "template" in the open dialogue will bring up all of your template services.

I hope that helps. I think Proclaim is built on some really good workflow paradigms, but it definitely makes you think about things differently than most other software. Now if only they could get the bugs out and keep it from crashing all the time...

We have both... I am trying to love proclaim but as of right now the only thing I can say Proclaim has over ProPresenter is Signals and now Surveys. Which are 2 HUGE things as we make our church service more interactive.

ProPresenter has a cloud service now but its not as robust as Proclaim.

From a straight reliability and presentation stand point, ProPresenter is way ahead although i stay trying to tell myself it isnt as I think Proclaim is the future.... unless ProPresenter implements interactive stuff like Signals...

We also own ProPresenter 4, Media Shout 4.5 & Proclaim. We have been primarily using Proclaim because of the Cloud base. Proclaim does take some adjusting to get used to but if you're able to think out of the box you'll find that it is quite revolutionary. Also, they have made tremendous strides over the past year and I expect this trend to continue. We have had our share of difficulties but lately things have been running pretty smoothly and we have had very few if any glitches with the latest set of updates. We have also been able to get around the font issue especially because we usually custom make our slides in Power Point, Corel, or Adobe and then upload them. We have had no problem utilizing the mp3 music uploads and syncing them to our slides and if we need to use mp3 as a sound track we utilize an entirely different program with our sound system and do not rely on any presentation software to do music. In regards to the template issue, I agree, with the point that a template is not required since we have multiple file copies 'saved' and can easily make updates to older presentations and rename/save them as required. Also, Proclaim does 'save' you presentations locally and I believe if someone somehow accidently deletes an entire presentation, it can be re-uploaded from another computer by not connecting to the internet prior to opening proclaim.

Having said all of this, we have found Proclaim to be quite reliable and stable as of late. I agree with the comment that having the cloud at its core is a huge difference and advantage from these others that are adding it as an 'option'. At this point we do not plan to spend the small fortune to upgrade to ProPresenter 5 or Media Shout 5. Our team is becoming accustomed to being able to work from home, vacation, work or in the office to pull things together for our multiple services. With all of the recent major updates Proclaim is now at a point where it is pretty formidable for us. It does have a way to go to get to the point where it rings every bell and blows every whistle like these other guys but I'm not sure Proclaim needs to. I think if you hang in there like we and so many others are, you will soon not be disappointed and certainly not in the long run. I hope this helps.
