CRASH 4.5a: Repeatable (?) crash exporting/printing from EBC

I'm not sure if it has got anything to do with EBC specifically, but that's the one that's been crashing on me. (Argh! It crashed on me 3 times in a row and now I've done it 3 times without a crash as I've been testing the process in order to document the steps) Steps to repeat:

1) Open EBC, Volume 12: Hebrews through Revelation

2) Navigate to Revelation

3) Click resource panel and click Print/Export

4) Right-click on top level check box for Revelation and click "Select All"

5) Scroll down to "Section III. Vision of the Seven-Sealed Scroll..." under "Exposition of Revelation"

6) Right-click on Section III. check box and click "Clear All"

7) Crash

EDIT: So after posting, I attempted to continue my work since it hadn't crashed in three attempts.  After clearing the section III. checkbox and all of its subsections, I proceeded to clear sections IV, V, and VI...it crashed when clearing section VI.  So maybe try checking and clearing multiple large sections to reproduce the crash.

EDIT 2: Also, you may try opening EBC through a PG of Rev 1 instead of opening the book individually...3 of my 4 crashes happened that way.  I'm not sure, but I'm wondering if there is a memory overflow or memory leak of some kind causing the problem.

EDIT 3: It just crashed on me when doing something similar in Tom Constable's Expository Notes.  It seems to have something to do with selecting enough sections to put the page count over the maximum of 100 pages and then trying to clear large sections to bring the page count back down below 100.

Interesting side note...Logos isn't producing a crash log when it crashes.  I have crashed numerous times since my initial posts and I decided that I'd come post my logs, but my crash log is from 8/18/2011...any ideas?

  • Wonder if Logos4.log file has any error messages ? needs diagnostic logging to be enabled => http://wiki.logos.com/Diagnostic_Logging

    Keep Smiling [:)]

I repeated those steps but it didn't crash, though it reduced the page count to 81. I selected a subsection of III. and the page count went to 100. I selected another and then it crashed.

There is no crash/error log and the logos4.log is silent from 18:53:54 whereas the Windows Event viewer shows this Application Error at 18:56:31:

I reproduced the crash pretty well from your reports, so there isn't anything more you can do. Your suggestion about the 100 page limit appears sound.

Terrific, thanks for your sleuthing and analysis Dave! [:)]

Also, this definitely seems to be a regression since either 4.5a or possibly 4.5...because I've done this type of thing before in the past and have never had frequent crashes like this.

I followed the steps outlined by Kknight78 and did not get a crash at first.  Using Columns = Single, I selected all available check boxes for Revelation and the max page was at 100.  Then, I "Clear All" at Section III Vision of the Seven-Sealed Scroll... After a few seconds, the max page was still at 100 and no crash.  I then cleared the check box at section B, The Letters to the Seven Churches...

and then Logos crashed.  I tried the steps again and was repeatable.

This crash sounds very similar to a previously-reported issue: http://community.logos.com/forums/t/45560.aspx

I was able to reproduce that crash just a couple of times, but never when I was debugging the app; I didn't find out what was causing it. I'll follow your steps (thanks for the detailed instructions!) and see if we can get any closer.

    Any luck reproducing this Bradley?

I did once, and we fixed the bug that was found (that particular time). See Tonya's response on that thread: http://community.logos.com/forums/p/45560/346941.aspx#346941
