Logos 4 Crash

I am running Windows 7 64bit with 8GB Ram on a Dell Studio XPS

When I type "Luke 24:45" into the "enter the passage or topic box”. It crosses over the next page and partly way through processing the results it crashes. (spits the dummy) I am running version SR5

I can reproduce the bug on two computers. One my laptop which has above configuration and my desktop that has windows 7 64bit but 4 GB Ram.

I just did this and don't have a crash (although L4 did give me a "not responding" message for about 2 seconds). What is your preferred Bible?

NIV, I changed the perferred bible to NKJV and ran again but no joy.

Hmm.

Can you run this on any other passage?

If you close the home page (click on the home page icon) and open the NIV, can you navigate to Lk 24:45? Can you open the Passage Guide and Exegetical Guide to that passage? Can you open the Compare Bible Versions tool to that passage? Does the Information tool crash your system when you open it, or when you click on a word?

None of these should cause an issue. But a couple of them put some strain on the CPU and RAM. It's possible that opening them one at a time won't crash, while opening them all at once will.

In either case, it could be helpful to log the problem. To enable logging (hold CTRL down as Logos starts). After the crash, post the logs (in zip format) here.

It works fine on John 1:1

After I run John 1:1

When I run Luke 24:45 in the Exegetical Guide it works fine but when I run in the passage guide it crashes.

Okay, assuming your indexing is finished this is a problem a Logos tech support person would need to deal with.

There are nine entries that look very much like this:

2009-11-13 10:48:28.3825 5 Warn KeyLinkManager Matched override reference gnt/49016 in LLS:46.30.4 but there were no corresponding milestones for the headword/reference.

Followed by this error:

2009-11-13 10:48:30.2817 1 Error OurApp Unhandled exception: System.NullReferenceException: Object reference not set to an instance of an object.

This is followed by a display of modules having problems.

The last display, does not show that L4 did not exit as expected:

2009-11-13 10:48:37.6551 1 Info IsWorkingControl Hiding IsWorkingControl (name id 41679865)
2009-11-13 10:48:37.6551 1 Info IsWorkingControl IsWorkingControl.IsAnimating = False (name id 41679865)

Without knowing the intricacies of this, it looks like an index mismatch, or indexing isn't finished, or you have a corrupt resources, or some combination.

But I'm guessing here. Hopefully a tech support person can get more specific for you. And while I hope they're working on getting that NIV rev int out, I also hope they're watching these forums for this sort of thing.

EDIT: BTW, LLS:46.30.4 is Louw-Nida. Check to see if your version number matches mine: LLS:46.30.4 | 2009-10-27T03:30:28Z

This forum is definitely a great place to file bugs, especially if a log file is attached. I wasn't able to reproduce the crash (yet), but we'll investigate the log file to see if we can figure out what went wrong.

P.S. Never thought I'd see "spit the dummy" on these forums...

How do I check that?

Open Louw-Nida. In the right upper corner of the resource tab is a circle with a lower case 'i'. Click that and scroll to the bottom of the resource information page. You should see "Support Info" on the left and the esoteric numbers and letters on the right.

That's the same as mine, so the problem is not the resource version. Hopefully Brad, or one of the other techs can look at your logs and figure this out. If you don't hear anything soon, you can attach the logs to an email and send them to tech@logos.com and explain your issue.

At this point they seem to respond about as quickly in these forums, but they must be working very hard, because we're not seeing much of them the last few days.
