Can't get logos to run for longer than 2-3 minutes.

I have to say that I am pretty dissapointed with Logos so far. I downloaded the program this evening and I haven't been able to use it for more than 2-3 minutes at a time.

I've tried restarting the computer a few times and then opening up the program without any luck. Still only get 2-3 minutes of usage before it just quits unexpectedly.

I hope this can be fixed quickly because this is just ridiculous.

Ben - Welcome to the forums! Sorry you are having troubles.

I am not a techie… You will have to wait until someone who knows better can read your logs. A couple of questions though: Have you used Logos before? Do you own a base package? Did you let Logos index first?

If you just downloaded Logos, it is most likely doing the initial index of your library; depending on what you bought and the speed of your machine/storage, this can take a while. I've found that Logos doesn't work right until the initial index is built. That said, I use a PC; perhaps the Mac version works differently.

First, please enable permanent diagnostic logging so we can have logs for the Indexer. See: http://wiki.logos.com/Diagnostic_Logging

I don't run Macs but your error looks familiar. Try opening Logos and type 'Rebuild Index' in the Command Bar and hit Enter (or whatever that key is called on a Mac). Now let the Indexer run until it is finished. Check your log files after indexing is complete to see that there is no Indexer crash log. Then reopen Logos and see if you still are getting a crash. Send along the log files to a follow-up posting if your get another crash, either in indexing or after reopening the program.

Your experience is far from typical, so you should be able to get up and running just fine.

I hope I didn't come off as too much of a jerk last night. I was just really frustrated. I wouldn't be upset if I had bought a 99 cent app but $415 is a lot of money for me.

I have never used Logos before. I bought the Logos Original Languages package yesterday. It seemed to get hung up when I was downloading resources. It got to 99% of "downloading resources" but it wouldn't go any further. I let it sit there for about 30 minutes and still no change. So I then force quitted the program and reopened it. It seemed to be fine because the home page came up. I noticed the small icon at the top of the screen and clicked on it. Saw that it was "indexing" and let that run its course. I tried to use it after that and it just kept crashing.

Just enabled the diagnostic imaging as you said. Tried to using the command "rebuild index". It started and then the program just quit. I attached the log files but I do have a question. Do I need to delete or clear out the log files after I compress them each time? I am not sure if I am sending the same files I attached last night or new ones that detail the latest crash?7245.3Mar12Archive.zip

Wiki has => Getting Started with Logos that includes => Installation + Indexing with:

Tip: Before installing Logos 4, connect computer to reliable network and power adapter, disable computer and hard drive sleep (OK for monitor to sleep). Laptop cooler is a good idea.

While Logos is locally indexing (for hours), many features are not usable. Essentially can read Logos resource(s) while indexing is in progress. While waiting for indexing to complete, could read wiki page => Getting Started with Logos and watch video tutorials => Logos 4 Video Tutorials

I bought the Logos Original Languages package yesterday.

Looking at Logos 4 Mac => System Requirements anticipating 3.81 GB of resources to download, then ~ 3 GB of disk space to be used while indexing. When indexing is done, suspect your Logos 4 folder will use ~ 6 GB of disk space. Guessing 2 hours (or longer) for local indexing.

Curious about motivation to purchase Original Languages ? e.g. desire to learn Greek and/or Hebrew ?

Apologies: have experienced Logos 4 Mac download to 99 % many times, but not complete. Can click on blue Logos icon in menu bar, then cancel download.

Each time Logos 4 opens, the diagnostic log files Logos4.log and Indexer.log are overwritten in your Logging folder. Errors are added to the Logos4Error.log file. If Logos 4 crashes, the Logos4Crash.txt file is overwritten.

Looking at Logos4.log file, noticed three SQLite database malformed error messages. The Logos4Error.log file has several write request failures.

When a SQLite database is malformed, the file needs to be deleted (move to trash). Unfortunately, the malformed message stack does not have file name.

Logos Mac Support => http://www.logos.com/about/contact has access to Logos code so could research SQL in crash stack to corresponding SQLite database file. Caveat: phone lines are closed on weekends. Since using stable Logos 4 Mac, can call or email Logos Mac Support => http://www.logos.com/about/contact

Since installation is new, one option is deleting /Users/username/Library/Application Support/Logos4 folder, then launch Logos 4 Mac to download your resources and index. If want to avoid downloading 3.81 GB of resource files again, could use wiki Quick Installation onto Multiple Macs => Copy Logos 4 Resources to Mac OS X to move your resources elsewhere, delete /Users/username/Library/Application Support/Logos4 folder (Step 1), then do the rest of the steps.

By the way, wiki Mac Troubleshooting => Reset Logos 4 User Files refers to => Copy Logos 4 Resources to Mac OS X

Ben - Logos will check for updates every time you start Logos. The icon appears, but disappears quickly. If it tells you that it is indexing, that is something different. Logos will index any time you get updates or new resources. Also, Logos will occasionally download only a portion of what it needs, so the process seems to drag on.

Check your Logos Log files folder to see if there is an Indexer or Indexer crash log. That will tell you if the reason is just updated resources or that the indexer is crashing and trying over and over again. A crash log from just after you started up Logos or ran it the last time is an indication of a problem. If you find that psot the log files here.

One thought I have, Ben, is that you make sure it finishes its initial indexing after installing before you shut your computer down. If you do not let it finish this important initial indexing before shutting down, it will index the next time you run the program – and every time thereafter – until it has the opportunity to finish.

I have a similar problem to Ben. The difference being that I own my Logos for the last 5 years, and Logos 4 has worked just fine in my Mac Leopard Snow.

Now it crashes after two minutes running. I tried turning off the internet option, but it still would crash. Finally I read this blog, and try to do what Ben did. I didn't mind deleting Logos4 folder and start all over again. I reinstalled Logos two nights ago; the downloading and indexing was done 12 hours later. Unfortunately, after two minutes running Logos it crashed again. Any suggestions? Do I need to delete the Libronix folder also?

Would like to look at diagnostic log files.

Could enable diagnostic logging, restart Mac, launch Logos 4 Mac. If crash repeats, then compress log files and attach to a forum reply. Wiki Mac Troubleshooting has => How to Report Bugs in Logos 4 Mac

Optional: download and use 5504.Logos4MacLogging.app.zip to display your logging setting, then change to enable logging.
