Logos appears to be open but no windows are visible

When I open Logos on my macbook air I see the application name and menu in the top bar but no windows appear on the screen.  They are not on a secondary monitor either.  I have tried reinstalling the app but it does the same thing.  Restarting the computer does not fix the issue.

Any thoughts?

Thanks,

Jeff

    Jeff-

First, welcome to the forums. Sorry you are having troubles.

I had this problem last week… A restart of my computer fixed the issue. Have you tried this unMAClike solution? [:S]

    Welcome [:D]

Wonder if Window menu has "Logos Bible Software 4" ? (possibly window is starting minimized or on another desktop)

Also wonder if diagnostic logs have any interesting messages ?

Hi.  This may be completely inappropriate, but I have found that with Lion there are windows opening and displaying at random.  I know it's not random, but it sure seems so.  If you can't find a window that should be open, go in the menu bar, to "Windows" and click on it.  Look at the bottom of the menu for a window with a diamond next to it.  That is a window that has been minimized.  Click on it to get it to show up.  Sometimes I have to go through all of my open applications closing windows until I find the one I want.  Sometimes I have a video that is playing in the background and I can't find it to turn the sound off.  I just bring each open application to the front one at a time, click on "Window", open the windows with the diamond that have been minimized and close them manually one at a time.  I have actually had videos playing I could not find until I "Quit" all open applications.  From my experience, it's a "feature" of Lion.  Hope this helps.  One more thing,  I have actually quit Logos and still had Logos windows minimized on my MacBook Pro.  I had to bring each to the front and close them manually.  I think it's Lion, not Logos that does this.

Hey Jeff, welcome to the forums.  I believe if you look at your dock (somewhere close to the ‘trash can’) and scroll or mouse over the Icons you will find one that say 'Logo’s Bible Software' a simple click will open to screen view.

    Hope this helps.

No resolution yet.  No minimized windows.  When I open the app it signs in and synchronizes.  Then it brings up the bar at the top of the window.  When I try to select a guide it does nothing.  There are no options under tools or layouts.  Anymore thoughts?

Perhaps enable diagnostic logging, then launch Logos 4 Mac.  If menu bar appears without a window, wait 3 minutes.  If still no window, then compress Logging folder and attach zip file to a reply.

Option: download and use an applescipt application 5504.Logos4MacLogging.app.zip to display your logging setting, then change to enable logging.

Option: download and use Logos Log Scribe application to create a zip file on your desktop (copies console messages, then compresses contents of your Logging folder for posting).

It sounds like your Logos 4 install may be corrupt. One investigation thing you could do (as well as sending in logs) is to have a look at running Logos process.

    image

    1. Run 'Activity Monitor' - various ways to do so, it should be in Utilities subfolder of Applications folder. Or press Cmd-Spacebar to bring up Spotlight then type 'Activity Monitor' and select to run it.
    2. In main screen at top right type 'logos' in search field. You should see something like above.
    3. Highlight Logos and then choose 'Inspect' from toolbar (top left). This brings up another dialog box.
    4. In that dialog box 'Statistics' should be selected on button bar and you should see constant activity being updated - Threads, CPU Time
    5. From dialog box choose 'Open Files and Ports' from button bar
    6. In normal running there should be hundreds of lines listed in the box.
    7. (Close dialog boxes by clicking red X dot as usual.

You should see things being updated constantly, if you don't then that is pretty clear indication that the application is stuck. If you do see activity then (unfortunately) that cannot rule out that your Logos app may be corrupt (and need reinstallation).

Another possibility may be that a (saved) layout is corrupt, I believe there is keyboard option to stop layouts being loaded when you launch Logos.

Wonder if have a personal book calendar devotional ? included in Library priorities (for display on Home Page) ?

Possibly Logos 4 Mac is crashing while trying to read a personal book, which would have intriguing messages in diagnostic log files.

By the way, personally experienced several crashes with one of my own personal books.  The crash occurred during startup so Logos 4 Mac did not have any windows.  Also, several menus (e.g. File, Layout) had no entries.  Could open my library in a floating window.  Also could open resources in a floating window.  The Logos4.log file had personal book file name, moving file to trash changed error messages in Logos4.log file.

If using stable Logos 4 release, other option is contacting Logos Mac Support => http://www.logos.com/about/contact

    PROBLEM SOLVED!!!!

The issue was that I had created a reading plan out of a book.

The solution was to delete the book from the library and then reopen the program.

Mine is doing the same. How do I fix it if I can't get into it?

I called tech support and they walked me through it.  Apparently you can't create a reading plan based on a book.

    Here's what we did:

Open finder.  Click "go".  Hold down Alt key and select "library."

    Open folder "Application Support"

    Open "Logos4" folder

    Open "Data" folder

Open that weird named folder.  Mine says "g5qmo6xx.a0x"

    Open "Resource Manager" folder

    Open "Resources" folder

Locate the book that you have built a reading plan for and delete it.  The book are abbreviated so look carefully.

Once you have deleted it, try reopening Logos.  It should open and then it will redownload the book that you deleted.

    I hope this helps.

I am not sure what the relationship between your reading plan and the problem you had… but yes, you can create reading plans based on books. Depending on the book, some plans work better than others.
