One more question about copyrights and sermons.

Any opinions on making and posting a file from sermons from this website.  The sermons excerpts are probably from a book that is copyrighted, but since they freely post these, I was curious.  I am sure several would like a series on his sermons on Romans but I wouldn't want to be in violation of any laws.

Just because they are posted does not imply that we can re-post them.  If they give you written permission, then you can post them to the forums.

I just don't know, Jerry. My opinion is that you could make a file for yourself but sharing such would violate the copyright laws. Just because something is freely distributed doesn't make it public domain. Many preachers rely on book sales, sermon collections included, for their livelihood. (I understand Billy Graham has never taken a salary from his evangelistic association but lives off his book royalties instead.)

I would secure written permission from the author before I started sharing his sermons.

Thanks for clarifying this.  I will follow your advice. Thanks!

I would contact Sean Richardson since he is the copyright holder of the website (his contact info is on the website). It appears that he gets his permission to use MLJ material from Lady Elizabeth Catherwood (MLJ's daughter and copyright holder)
