Downloading resources to iPad

Is it correct that I have to download the same resources several times to use them offline with the different apps from Logos (Logos, Faithlife Study Bible, Vyrso)? That will occupy quite a lot of space on the iPad when having several thousand books.

Could it be possible to download the resources once and then use them on all apps?

No. That isn't how iOS apps work. Apps are sandboxed.

I find it best to segregate my Logos apps. I use Vyrso for my (drumroll please) Vyrso books. I use Logos for my study books. I use Faithlife only for the faithlife resources.

There are some links in Faithlife Study Bible to commentaries and other resources from your library. If you don't download more than faithlife resources you will not be able to access these when offline. That will reduce the power of Faithlife Study Bible. To me it seems like Logos wants to connect Faithlife Study Bible with the rest of your library. Have I misunderstood?

No. I just don't plan to use the Faithlife mobile app for that purpose. The target audience for Faithlife is a more general audience. If I were in a small group of lay members, I would be more likely to recommend Faithlife than the Logos app. If I were in a group of pastors / teachers, I would probably recommend the Logos app over Faithlife.

To be honest, I have deleted Faithlife from my iPhone because it takes up too much room (it is still on my iPad, which has more room). By the way, you can download the Faithlife Study Bible to your Logos app. In other words, you can choose to use the Logos app instead. I would certainly choose one to be your primary app, and download resources there. In some ways, the Faithlife app would make more sense because the Faithlife resources are downloaded by default. I, however, don't prefer to use split screen most of the time (which Faithlife is designed to be).

I have downloaded the Faithlife Study Bible in the Logos App, but I get an error message when trying to open it: "Error loading book. Logos could not load the specific book".

Di - Of course, you are right. Faithlife has the community aspect. My comments above were about a strategy for downloading resources. The "online community" is pretty worthless when you are offline. [:P] When you are online, you would have access to your library anyway.

If I were to add to my comments above about how I would utilize downloads… I would probably download books that the community would be reading together into the app. There would be no need, in my mind, to download the entire library, which was the point of my comments above.

I'm sorry about the confusion. In the current Logos app you can download the resource, but cannot view the actual study Bible just let. You can view the photo, videos, and infographics now. We will be updating the Logos app soon to support the entire FSB. Thanks!

I am signed up and I can access the Study Bible on my ipod, but get a recurring message "Faithlife Study Bible Infographics is not available to download without a license". Can anyone shed any light on this.

yeah, me too. but it is working now. not sure what I did to make it work, Sue. Alabama, do you know? I never uninstalled/reinstalled. just kept updating resources.

i'm with you on this. In general, I have done what you have done:

1. Logos downloads: all of my library (save perseus) that will be used for research and more technical reading, or things only I like to read

2. Vyrso: making it user friendly for my wife and children, I downloaded all vyrso books and some other reading like Lucado or Christian History.

3. Faithlife: the core essentials that come with it (infographics, videos) and also a few different translations just to stay in the app. Alabama, point well taken that to use the community you need internet, so if no internet is available, not as important to access the peripheral reference books--can go over to Logos if one really needs to read it. I wish all the books could be shared across the three apps, but that is not the fault of Logos.

I don't know if Sue was having any problems other than the warning. Faithlife does take a LONG time to download, and often takes several (or more) attempts for all resources to fully download. I have gotten the warning, but the pictures and other resources did still work.

alabama, I noticed a problem today with the infographics. two thumbnails would show on the bottom of my screen, but if I tried to press on the right hand picture, only the left handed graphic enlarges. it did that consistently.

Confirmed… kind of. Mine was a bit screwier. I had four images, could only get 2 to open. The top left would open when I clicked either the two on the left. The bottom left would open when I clicked the two on the right. [:S]

I will create a BUG report elsewhere, since I am running a further beta than you. It might be good for you to do the same here.

I am a beta tester for the iOS apps… It is a "private" beta, largely because Apple controls the number of users it allows to beta test any given app. There isn't a way to install apps other than through Apple...

I don't know if I have ever created a bug report. what do I need to do? I would like to have the skill of doing that . . . and removing some of your burden as well . . .

I simply mean that I created a new thread with "BUG:" as the prefix in the subject line. When I create a bug report, I try to explain what the issue is, steps to reproduce it, and things I have already tried. Sometimes I send an email to a logos employee, but I try not to BUG them too often. [:)]

I seem to have a problem with viewing the FSB in Logos (iOS) I can see it in my library, even download the book updates but whenever I try to open the book I continue to get "error loading book". I've tried this with the book downloaded and not downloaded same error. I initially assumed that it was only supposed to be used in the Faithlife app. But then again it automatically downloaded to my desktop and shows up in the Logos app. I'm confused, I'm I suppose to be able to open the book in Logos app or not.

Also I'm using the shipping version of the Logos app on both my iPad 3 and iPhone 4s (if that info makes a difference)

I'm using the shipping version of the Logos app

I don't think that the FSB is compatible with the current version of the Logos mobile app. It does not open on one device running the release version, but it does open in a further beta build. It should work, however, in the release version of Vyrso (which is based on a further build of the mobile app).

I do hope that the Logos and FSB apps will eventually "converge". I think the FSB app has a more logical / polished user interface (e.g. the slide-out left-side-panel, a clearer way to access recently read locations, Bible on top / commentary on bottom with Devotionals and Dictionaries opening on top of the commentary - effectively giving us 3 panels / windows, etc).

Converging the two apps will allow the Logos app to have full social / sharing features and also allow them to share the same offline/downloaded books.

I don't think they will, at least not soon. Each of the apps (Faithlife, Logos, Vyrso) have distinctive purposes. Logos has hinted, however, that the faithlife app development will be the leading edge of the future development of the other two.

To avoid confusion to anyone reading this thread, the faithlife study Bible is now available for iPad on Vyrso, the Bible app as well as of course the Faithlife app itself. On the Bible app the bold Scripture references only follow your preferred Bible.

Edit: you must use the most recent version of the Bible app, version 2. 1 .3
