Just wondering if anyone would recommend Ladd or Theilman's New Testament Theology in the March Madness Sale? Any preference. Cheers.

Peace,
Marcus

Ladd's is excellent. We used it as the textbook in my New Testament Theology class in seminary. My paper copy is full of underlines which I someday intend to transfer to Logos. A particular section that I go back to refer to again and again is the charts on p. 65. It was Ladd who first and best explained to me to the relationships between this age and the age to come, the OT and NT, the Kingdom of God and the first and second comings of Christ.

    I'm not familiar with Thielman.

Disclosure: I bought Ladd. That said, my rationale was somewhat along the lines that G.E. Ladd is a classic, everyone cites him regarding the "already - not yet" idea. In addition, I do have the books by I. Howard Marshall and Donald Guthrie in paper - you'll find that Ladd, Guthrie and Marshall lead the reviews at http://www.bestcommentaries.com/nt-theology/ in a tied first place (75.8 score-points) with a thin margin on Thielmann (fourth with 75.5). My decision was also based on the aspect that Thielmann lectures his book for free at http://www.biblicaltraining.org/new-testament-theology/frank-thielman and I've listened through this in 2010 (btw. he recommends Marshall). I think the course outlines available there may follow his book.

Reviewers on Amazon point out that Thielmann'ss NT Theology follows along the NT books, thus could as well serve as kind of an NT Introduction, while Ladd (as well as Thomas Schreiner, fifth on bestcommentaries FWIW) treats it more topically. Ladd gets more reviews describing his work as indispensable, which again led me to prefer him over Thielmann.

So far my preferences - your mileage may vary.

I highly recommend Ladd. It was/is instrumental in my understanding of Israel and the Church, as well as eschatology. His writing style makes difficult subjects easy to read without being pedantic.

I am not familiar with the other resources, so I can only speak to Ladd.
