How come Proclaim does not allow me to underline certain words? Or does it? I can find every other "Word-type" function, except the ability to underline. We use this for outline inserts for the congregation...can this be added?
Hi Daniel - and welcome to the forums.
How come Proclaim does not allow me to underline certain words? Or does it?
This was flagged at the end of January as not being included and it looks like it still hasn't been added.
As you can see at http://community.logos.com/forums/t/44630.aspx a case was raised but I don't remember seeing any response.
I expect Scott, or one of the other Logos guys, will comment.

can this be added?
Yes, we'll be adding it shortly.
Hi Daniel
I see that Scott has said that this will be added soon.
The implementation of underlining on Presentation software, if not very carefully done, can really hamper legibility. Underlining has been deprecated in the print world for decades in favour of italics, emboldening, changing colour etc. None of which actually alter the shape of the letters in the text. Poorly implemented underlining often either cuts through descenders as in the least two g's (making them look more like o's) or upsets the line spacing in the text as the line has to be moved down to allow the descenders enough space.
Even when implemented this way of highlighting text is likely to look ugly, dated, and hinder legibility. I recommend finding another route to accomplish your aim.
Good point, Mike. I didn't like how underlining looked on the screen but was never able to explain why. "Ugly, dated, and hindered legibility" sum it up nicely. We are now using the SMALL CAPS format to identify the words that the congregation need to fill in their sermon outlines.
While I get you point about "distortion" if not used correctly, nothing distorts text as bad as the "Bold" feature, which was included, and that is much harder to compensate for. The distortions of an underline, which was not included, affect just a couple of letters, while bolding only one word or letter affects the entire line, forcing those of us making the slides to manipulate font sizing and other things like that. I'll take and underline feature over bolding or italics any day. And I really appreciate the response, more than you know. For the record, I LOVE Logos and have been waiting for Proclaim to not only come out, but get worked over by the real "techies" (not me) before we bought it. Though we are a small church and growing - my Tech crew LOVES Proclaim, and so do I. The fact that I got such a fast response to my question is a HUGE plus for me. Feel kind of stupid saying it, but it makes me feel like our churches money wasn't wasted, and someone "over there" is actually paying attention.
THANK YOU! And the Lord bless you...whoever you are
