Renaming a Custom Guide Entry

Is there a way to "rename" an entry in a custom guide? For example, as you can see from the screen shot, I have several GRAMMARS in my custom guide [coming from various Hebrew and Greek COLLECTIONS] but when they appear in MY GUIDE I can't readily see what resources they contain.

Yessir, See the screen shot below for reference: First open your custom guide, then click on the drop-down so that you can access the "Edit Guide Template" selection (red arrow on the left), and when the guide template opens just click the pencil to edit the name (red arrow on the right).  Hope this is what you're looking for.

Thanks, Mark. But I wasn't thinking of renaming the guide itself but the various "parts" of it [like the grammars I have added to it].

Nope. Not to my knowledge, I believe those are dedicated and deadlocked. But I could be wrong...

Wiki Using the Forums has => Adding a picture to a Post since attaching picture in thread is easier for discussion than using an attached Word document with picture inside.  In Word, right clicked on picture to save image file, then attached:

Looking at "My Guide" noticed four Grammar sections with different collections.

Running an Exegetical Guide for Philippians 4:4-9, noticed my one collection of Grammars has the same results in Grammars and Collections sections:

Personally created two more Grammar collections (adding subject filter for languages), then added Collection sections to My Exegetical Guide:

Bill, I am not trying to be rude, but the reality is: u do not need to make any collections or mytags or priorities or special little thingiees, etc., etc. ---- the program will take care of itself.

But, if you have a large library like portfolio, or two under, then all those listed above will greatly enhance and reduce time spent searching.

Take for instance your 'grammers' collection, why have all those collections, whats the purpose? Did you know that unless you have a really really really special resource(s) for grammer that when you do an EXE guide, that it will automatically give you results based on what you have in u'r resources? Yeah it will!!! u do not need to do anything-the program does it.....plus if there is nothing in those resources that apply to the text in question- then there is no results, even if you have a 'mytag' or 'priority' or whatever.....if the program can't find it- it won't list it....

lookiee here: you have a collection for "grammer" - hebrew lexicons; your text John 12:24. A Hebrew lexicon for a Greek text? Like I said, I am not trying to sound rude, but why?

The best home-made guide is a precise guide, The quicker the results are given, the more time spent studying, I think MP said that in one of his older cd's or at one of those camp things I went to years back. I only have three guides, the ones that came with the program, but i do have many many layouts that are dedicated to different areas of study.....

If you think I speak out of place just say so and I will humbly grovel and apologize......but I am seeing more people are creating guides that, well, from what I see are slowing the program and not boosting the quality.....theres a wiki page for layouts somewhere...if I recall

maybe I am wrong.....again not trying to be rude or sound as such.....

Wiki Getting Started with Logos has => Layouts and => Collections with Tips and links.

Personally chose to add Grammar collections for couple language groupings as a virtual bookshelf, which can be referenced if (when) considering a grammar resource purchase (sale or community pricing).  Also allows searching by an English grammatical term while focusing on a particular language.

Likewise created collections of Lexicons for some languages so can search for an English word with a language focus (e.g. find language lemmas with similar meanings).  Also can use collection as a virtual bookshelf when considering a purchase.

For custom guides, personally have five: My Passage Guide, My Exegetical Guide, My Bible Word Study, "Word by Word - All", and "BWS - Grammatical Relationships"

Thanks, Keep Smiling. I see that choosing GRAMMARS automatically finds any occurences from all my grammars but also by hypenating the titles of the collections I can have them appear as separate collections.

No probelm, Room4ore. I appreciate your comments. However, I have found that using a Custom Guide, at times, can save time. By having both languages on the custom guide I have ready access to whatever reference [Old Testament or New Testament] I am in.

Since GRAMMARS allows collection to be specified, personally wish section would show collection name (aka Collections section).

Personally living and learning that Lexicon collections with language focus are useful for any passage since some lexicons have Old and New Testament words.  For Philippians 4:2-9 passage, noted Grammars collection had hits in Greek, but not Hebrew & Aramaic.  However, the Lexicons and Lexicons - Greek collection are identical, but my Lexicons - Hebrew shows entries from "Vine’s Complete Expository Dictionary of Old and New Testament Words." that is appreciated since Vine's has discussions about word use.

Gentle reminder for R4M: primary forum focus is using Logos Bible Software.

Thankful for many friendly forum discussions about using Logos Bible Software; have learned a lot plus have a lot to learn.  Likewise Thankful for Bill's custom guide; personally excited by collection section additions to My Exegetical Guide.  Also Thankful for a number of forum threads with friendly interaction by a number of Logos users while discussing thread topic relevant to using Logos Bible Software.

For an Old Testament passage, learned Grammars section and Collections section for my "Grammars - Hebrew & Aramaic" have a number of different results.  Likewise noticed Lexicons whose subject includes Greek that have Old Testament references:

Isn’t that what I did? I just did not use a bunch of elongated pics, so what could you possibly be reminding me of, praytell?

I'm open to hear how you consider how I did not do this-

[I think that you missed a bunch of other posts on other threads, surely you are not single-ing me out of many, are you? why that would just be out-right rude, almost to the point of being totally dis-respectful..........]

    Thanks.

I can't speak for the original poster, but my purpose in building collections is two-fold:

    1. to make guide sections tightly connected to a single issue - I only open those that address my current concern
    2. to make the results within a section manageable within a single work session so that I'm not wasting time re-orienting myself in subsequent work sessions.

Other people have other work patterns - they should customize Logos to meet their particular needs and style.

On the other hand, I use few layouts as they assume a consistency that my work spaces don't have. Now if I could tie a layout to a particular canon ...

Orthodox Bishop Alfeyev: "To be a theologian means to have experience of a personal encounter with God through prayer and worship."; Orthodox proverb: "We know where the Church is, we do not know where it is not."

Mj, thanks. I guess for me it is a roll-over thing from years gone by. The layouts to me then were more productive than the guides, yet the guides were used as a searching tool....to gather info quickly. I do use collections, again from roll-overs, having only six. If i start a general study I will use the three guides, but the more indepth, the more I will use my layouts with selective resources.

the "parts" are deadlocked[correct word] they are set - you cannot change[rename] them they are locked via the programming.

In general we probably only use maybe 65-75 % of what the L4 is capable of doing. I can't wait to see what BP/developers give us in L5........

"Now if I could tie a layout to a particular canon..." I'll bet you could if'n you put your mind to it.....

    hope this helps...
