My index.idx file size for Logos is 2.4GB... this seems HUGE!!! I have the Silver Base Pkg. Is there a way to optimize the size of the index file to get it as lean as possible?

L4 indexes every word of every resource in your library. That is a lot of date to store, which must also be accessible to your search engines. Thus, the size of the file may already be as optimized as it can be. Future versions of the software may possibly reduce the size, but I would not hold my breath waiting for that to happen.
My file is 5GB for 5,659 resources
A somewhat related side note: Often people complain because of the lack of offline searching on the mobile app. The index is one of the reasons this feature works off of Logos' servers instead of locally.
Just for comparison, on the Windows side with 3,000+ resources it's 3.5g. Looks linear-ish relative to library mix.
I realize what you're saying Alabama, but 2-5g's these days is pretty small. Even my older smart phone had 16g's on the itty-bitty card; maybe 32g?. Not sure what the max capacity is now. It would have been REALLY 'sweet' if they had designed the mobiles to accept a Mac/PC index (i.e. already indexed by Logos4).

But that 2-5 GB is only the index… you still need the resource files themselves. Additionally, L4 needs to create the index… your smart phone can't really do that… yet.

By way of comparison, my Logos 4.5c Beta 1 on Mac Index.idx file is 5.39 GB for 6,664 resources while my Windows 7 Index.idx file is 5.01 GB. Caveat: Windows file size is 5,385,886,106 bytes while Mac file is 5,394,857,984 bytes, so the Mac file is 8,971,878 bytes larger while having 5 fewer resources. For GB size calculation, Apple is using 1,000,000,000 for 1 GB while Microsoft is using 1,073,741,824 for 1 GB (with 1,024 for 1 KB, which is a multiple of 2).
More resources have more words to index so local library index size increases with library size.

Don't forget you also have a Bible Index. I have a 5.8 GB Library Index and a 1 GB Bible Index. My whole Logos installation is 28 GB. As others have said disc space is cheap these days and I have plenty left on my C: drive with all my programs and data. I don't know how well our Logos indexes are optimized, but I imagine most of us would prefer optimization focused on speed at the expense of size. If Logos worked on any further optimization, that's the direction I'd want them to go.
