Bug: 4.5c Beta 1 UI bugs

Hard to compare this kind of thing, but subjectively the UI feels snappier with the under-the-hood changes, even basic things like opening and closing contents pane, the library menu, there's no longer any 'lag'.

Couple of UI bugs:

in the book info pane, the 'done' button doesn't always appear immediately, pops up after up to 10 seconds.
The link-set indicator is being overlaid by the book icon rather than the other way around.

In the library panel:

The carat to indicate sorting floats to the right, and can disappear off the side of the panel.
Clicking the menu above the book icons sorts by title and seems redundant.
The default width for the rank menu isn't wide enough for a search with lots of results - the numbers clip.

Finally I couldn't really work out what the new rank menu was doing, is it ordering by relevance to the search criteria? If that's the case should that be the default?

Sorry, cannot duplicate this delay. The done button appears instantly on my installation.

The rank menu only appears when there is a search term entered.

Sorry, cannot duplicate this delay. The done button appears instantly on my installation.

After searching Library for a word (e.g. church), then clicking Rank and widening Rank column a bit, appears Rank has relevance:

When Rank column is added to Library, would appreciate wider width to match width of Numbers instead of width for the word Rank. Also [Y] like [I] of Rank default becoming default sort for a Library search if a different column has not been chosen for sort order.

Personally learning if (when) Library filtering finds more than 999 resources, then Rank column width is a wee bit too small.

I've learnt that you can make the Library drop down wider, so much more useful now

Personally, I'd put it on the left side of the text rather than floating right, feels more visually intuitive to me -> put the indicator for which column is being sorted by is next to the label that tells you what that column is.

I just tried it with a bunch of books I have open; all the bibles it worked right away. Some of the lexica (BDAG/NIDNTT) were fairly quick a few seconds, a couple of monographs took longer (a volume of church dogmatics, a greek grammar).

Actually, while I've being flicking back and forth between windows to write this, it seems that the Done button is "there" but isn't being rendered right away, when I change over to Safari the window UI changes for losing focus are rendered and the Done button (greyed out) gets rendered in the process...

I hope they do more with the rank column. I was confused at first. Did the number mean the number of "hits" for that resource, or did it mean it's position in the list of hits (1...2...3, etc)? Sorting by rank by default (per KSFJ suggestion) would clear that issue up.

If you're in "Tile" view, searching the Library sorts by rank by default. If you're in "Details" (grid) view, we keep your existing sort order and don't override it when a query is entered.

Rank orders by relevance to the search criteria, promoting words that are in resource titles above words in the description, for example. It also sorts exact matches to the top, so searching for "NIV" will put the NIV Bible as the #1 result.

(This is a feature that has been on Windows for a long time, but has only just been added to Mac as part of increasing Mac parity.)

If you're in "Tile" view, searching the Library sorts by rank by default. If you're in "Details" (grid) view, we keep your existing sort order and don't override it when a query is entered.

Observation: if search my Logos library using Logos 4.5c Beta 1 on Mac, then click Rank to sort by Rank. Personally have learned Rank sorting is kept until Library filter is deleted, which changes next Library sort back to default order of Title instead of last used sort by Rank.

Workaround when sorted by Rank and want to completely change library filter is highlighting existing filter, then type (or paste) new filter so Rank column does not disappear from "Details" (grid) view.

I am not able to reproduce this issue either. It would be good to get a screencast of the delay along with diagnostic logs for your program.

It works that way on Windows as well. Since book covers don't have inherent labels (like color, size, etc.) I'm not sure what else it could sort by that would make more sense. I suppose that the cover image column could be set to not be a sort-able column, but I'm not sure that is preferable.

Ok, here's a screencast and logs. While in this screencast the button appears normally at first and then not the second time, it is less predictable than that in practice.

I don't know if it's related or not, but as I watch it back now the displaying of the page flip animation to and from the info pane, and the Narnia background also seem inconsistent.

The alignment of the sort arrows in the Library panel is by design. It matches the display of the sort arrows in the List view in Finder.

Any suggestions for creating a screen cast?

I personally use Jing from TechSmith, though you have to have a different program installed in order to view the video format it puts out (I have Elmedia Player installed, but I usually just send them over to my Windows machine instead. [:P])

There is an existing case for irregularities in the flip animation. The Narnia background is an Easter egg, so it's supposed to be inconsistent. [:)]

I'm running 10.7.4

Incidentally, I reinstalled Lion yesterday to fix an OSX problem. This UI bug still exists though it seems to happen much less frequently before... Weird!
