Exit mobile app

How can I exit the Android app? When I press the back icon, it goes to the previous passage I was viewing. I have to use a Kill Apps program to shut it down.

I agree with this concern, it seems like a no brainer that an app, or any computer program would have an exit function. It is unacceptable to have to back up through everything you've done to exit an app. This can be quite time consuming, and one may wish to leave the current configuration for the next start up. It is also unacceptable to have to open another app (like taskmaster) just to kill the previous app. I brought it up with a tech at a trade show, who agreed this was a problem, and he promised to "look into it." Like this post, that was over a year ago. I also brought this up on this forum nearly two years ago (Sept 2011),  and still nothing has been done to address it.  Please, logos, add this common sense basic feature!

I'm not a seasoned Android user, but I seem to remember reading in one of those tech help sites that Android apps simply aren't designed to be shut down, since memory management works different than on the desktop. The author was clear that separate apps that kill the processes do more harm than good.

So maybe it's best just to switch to another app and not worry.

I know nothing about Android… but that is how it works on iOS.

The only way I have found to close it down without losing your place is to press the "Home" button. The app seems to clear itself from memory after a short period of time.

Yes this is the design paradigm for Android apps in general. Not all apps follow the desired design, but this is the intent.

Hmm Sarcasm is my love language. Obviously I love you.

Thanks, it would be nice to have an "exit" function other than or in addition to the "Home" button, but it is what it is (for now).
