Visual Filters and Biblical Places
I am currently reading the book of Acts, and have found it helpful to highlight the places as I go through, to make it easier to work out where particular incidents occurred. It struck me that it might be possible to create a visual filter to do this, given that Biblical Places must be tagged somehow in the text to enable the "Biblical Places" tool to work. Does anybody know how I could identify a Biblical Place in a visual filter search to accomplish this? The wiki gives some fantastic hints on creating various visual filters but doesn't seem to cover this.
This isn't a major thing - just one of those "I wonder if I could....." moments so please don't spend time on it!

Hi Greg, I don't know the answer to your question about Biblical Places, but you can use Louw-Nida numbers to do this. This is the syntax: <LN 93.389-615>
This works for the visual filter syntax for geographical places in the NT and this is what I use for the OT. ([field bible,content] <af-morph+he~N?[CEGLMR]?????>)
The visual filter for the NT is based on a Basic search while the one I am using for the OT is based on a morph search using Anderson-Forbes morphology.

You can't search for Places in a bible else it would be on the Context menu. The searches with LN numbers and Hebrew Morphology work fine in a reverse interlinear bible.

Unfortunately the AF morphology is wrong about a few "places" eg. Cush can be a person or place/region but AF only recognises Ps 7 Title as a person!

Thank you for the suggestions everybody. I would never have thought of using the LN numbers. In case anybody else wants to do this, the search above includes a whole lot of nationalities as well, so I added an ANDNOT to the end of the search with the format ANDNOT (<LN 93.xxx>, <LN 93. yyy>) this excluded all the nationalities and cities of origin. The numbers to exclude are: 395, 396, 399, 403, 411, 445, 465,469, 487, 490, 505, 507, 528, 531, 546, 562, 569 and 610, I did try just excluding anything in the list that was an adjective, but a lot of them (e.g. Galileans) are tagged as both nouns and adjectives, at least in the NIV. It certainly helps me to keep a mental track of where I am as I am reading through Acts now, though!

Personally learned 93.445 has translations Galilee (with right click Place) and Galileans (with right click Person in Acts 5:37)
Likewise learned LN 93.487 has a variety of translations along with Biblical People (Jew) and Places (Judea). Some more LN 93 domain numbers with People and Places: 441, 474, 507, 528, 562, and 570.
For researching Louw-Nida numbers from 93.388 through 93.615, learned a wildcard search for some common English word endings was helpful to find a variety of People (had 2 Bibles open: ESV and AV 1873):
Note: the wildcard search of *an includes some false positives: e.g. Jordan (93.485) and Midian (93.526) are Places that match *an.
Edit: People and Places visual filter update for New Testament using Louw-Nida numbers (most highlighted words have Biblical People and/or Places):
For highlighting things using Louw-Nida, choose to highlight domains 2 thru 8 along with Biblical Things in Louw-Nida domain 1 (right click):
Anticipating some visual filter updating while reading various New Testament passages, especially items with right click Biblical Things in a variety of Louw-Nida domains. Also have option to refine highlighting of Louw-Nida domains 2 through 8 since a number of things do not have right click option for Biblical Things.

Thanks KS4J - I think you're right. I also appreciate all the other information you've put in above - it has given me some other ideas to improve how I use L4 on the desktop.
