Just installed the update and tried importing a pptx powerpoint file -- every time I did it crashed (no errors, just closed)
are there explicit requirements? what does checking the 'local file only' box do?

update: it was able to load a ppt file ... but still not pptx
Proclaim crashes on pptx import as well. The local file only uses a file on your machine and does not sync it on the cloud
That's certainly not intended! It would be very helpful to see your log files. Please post them to this thread per the instructions here: http://community.logos.com/forums/t/39446.aspx

Tried to install pptx from dropbox, Proclaim closes. Here are the logs

I must have done something wrong. i will try again. I am new to mac so I am still figuring this out.
It looks like you didn't actually attach the log files.
Reply to this thread, then hit the paperclip Insert Attachments/Media button:
Then, press Choose File and select the Archive.zip you created.
