I like the suggestions here. Would also like to add:

    • A way to turn off verse numbers and heads and subheads.
It would be great if there was a way to have just the bible text and nothing else.

    • Highlighting the way iBooks does it is extremely efficient and easy to use.
It would be great to implement something like that and keep notes and highlights
       completely separate.

    • The same homescreen that we have in Logos 4 would be great on the iPad.
The iPad lends itself to this kind of design better than the computer screen.

Perhaps the design of the iPhone app and the iPad app should be different. The real estate is completely different. The things that are possible on the iPad are not that conducive to the iPhone.

Thanks! I love the app so far. The team at Logos is doing a great job!

    Dear Logos,

Is there way to edit the favorites? For example, I sometime categorize the bible verse by the topic that I am trying to remmber or trying to concentrate on. It seems like I can make one big list of bible verse. But it wouldn't let me categorize them, it would be so convient if I can pull it out when ever something pops up in my mind.

Thank you and new version of LOGOS Ipad ROCKS :D

I second Kevin's assessment of the new iPad version.  Great work!!

With the next batch of ideas, I still would like to be able to see a currently reading list and have the option of bookmarks within a particular book.

When I open the app, it either shows every book in my library which is numerous or whatever I searched for last.  It would be great to have a current reading list of books that are tagged as being actively read.  And finally with the bookmarks, the issue is that when I choose a reading plan entry, it opens at the first page of the reading day I choose.  For example, if the reading plan says pages 100-125, it will open to page 100 when I click on the reading entry.  But say something comes up and I stop reading.  If I come back to it later at page 115 and read to 125, the option to mark the day complete is gone.  Now of course the new ability to mark entries complete from the reading plan view will solve much of this, but it still would be helpful to have a bookmark option (much like Kindle does).

But I don't want to make it seem like I am complaining... version 3.0.0 just checked off most of my past requests for enhancements.  Truly a great update.

    Just a thought.

David I really like your ideas, and thought I'd post a few of my own.  I often like to use my ipod to look up things at church where I may not have my laptop or tablet with me.   I think a few of these would make the Ipod app stronger.

    1. Voice recording within notes (this one is kinda iffy, but it does help in a pinch for idea transfer in a hurry.
    2. Being able to read your entire note file on the Ipod.  I've never been able to read mine only add to it.
    3. being able to split screen your notes with your bible would be nice.  I see a split screen in the faithlife app which is very useful for  running refferences.  If that could be done for notes it would be awesome.

    Thanks

Does Logos have a wishlist for the iPad app?

For the past few months, I have been forcing myself to use Logos instead of my hardcopy Bible at a weekly Bible study.  As a result, I have a few suggestions for making the iPad app into a better product.  For example:

    • Support tabbed reading panes (Google Chrome implemented this interface extremely well).  I am not talking about splitting the screen.
    • Ability to search on New Testament, not the entire Bible.
    • Ability to scroll text, not simply turn a page.  If this is not possible, at least let users align the page to any starting point.
    • Allow me to use my BDAG more easily, at least when I am connected via WiFi, to look-up selected words.
    • With IOS 6, support Siri's voice capabilities to permit hands-free navigation.

Jeffery - First, welcome to the forums!

It's kind of funny that you posted this today. The app was updated yesterday and both of these features were added. I don't know the specs on your iPod… If it is new enough, these features should be available. Otherwise, you will have to wait until you update your hardware.

Hi Jeffery and welcome to the forums.  On release 3 you can now view your entire notes file in the iPod (at least you can on the iPhone so I assume you can on the iPod). From the home screen click on the magnifying glass, swipe across to the fourth pane (documents) and you can view any notes file by tapping on it.

In the Bible Word Study I can tap on various sections of the translation ring to see the different words and locations in the Bible that the lemma is translated into.  However as far as I know you can't perform a search to see them all at once, you can only do manuscript form searches. I would like a link within the Bible Word Study to perform a lemma search of all the inflected forms of the Greek or Hebrew in the default English Translation like we can do on the desktop. (BTW if someone knows how to do this or a feasible work around I would like to know it.)

I would love to see textual searches on the iPad. Not just the Bible, but the other ones (LXX, Philo, ect,).

I would like to be able to load the library on the screen like we can the guides.  I would like to have the library open and be able to scroll in it with another resource open beside it on a split screen and be able to move the focus back and forth, open resources into the second pane, etc.

That would be very helpful! Maybe a send to pane feature so it could be optional.

I would like to add that a prayer list on my iphone/ipad that syncs with my computer would be awesome.  I use that list daily and not having this feature is the only reason I travel with my laptop.  It would also help me to be able to pray more effectively throughout the day on items I am committed to praying for.  Yes, as the Spirit leads daily I do stop and pray for those things brought to mind.  An example might be that every Monday I pray for certain neighbors to come to Christ.

The iPad app just keeps getting better.  The more I use it, the more I love it but I also can see a few areas that need some improvement.

    1. Reading Plans are difficult to follow the way I use them.  I can't be the only one who does this, but I have multiple documents that I have setup in the future to force me to read in a structured approach.  But the Daily Reading section is not ordered in any way and depending on the title length, the start date is truncated. See below:

    image

Notice the document starting on December 5 is below the December 19 document.  The third item in the list could be starting today, I just don't know.  If these were ordered by date showing overdue first, then readings starting today, then future readings, it would really be helpful.  A green flag for Today like the red Overdue flag may be helpful too.

    2. Sometimes, I read partway into a daily reading and don't make the whole way (hence the overdue).  I then have to do a search of my library for the document and access it that way so my place is not lost.  Using the Daily Readings link will take me back to the beginning of the daily reading, not where I left off.  Recommend a prompt that recognizes if my last read position is greater than where the link will take me.  Kindle does this with the Sync to last page read option.  Seeing that the software is already holding my last known position in memory, it should be able to recognize the difference.

    3. Being able to get my personal books on my iPad is still a priority for me.  I know it's coming eventually, but wanted to keep it fresh.  Being able to import third party ebooks would be great too.  I would love to be able to use the Logos app for all my reading needs and not have to wonder if I have the book on Kindle, some other eReader or Logos.

I would second Ryan's suggestion.  The most important time of my day is the first hour and a half in the morning quiet.  To have access to the prayer lists from my desktop on the iPad would be most beneficial!

Ditto. I really enjoy using Logos on both iPad and iPhone and find it really handy to keep up with my devotional reading wherever I am. The one thing I have been hanging out for (and which I understood would not be far behind reading plans) is syncing my prayer list to my iDevices. Please, please Logos - can this be added soon?

May the Lord bless you all as you remember the birth of our Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ.

Ability to scroll text, not simply turn a
page.  If this is not possible, at least let users align the page to any
    starting point.

One reason is that when you are highlighting, sometimes the text spans two pages. Scrolling would allow you to position the text appropriately. This is the only reason I would want this feature. A "half page turn" would work for me just as well (or better)

Unless I am missing something, i think i can help both of you.  you can use two fingers to adjust the text up or down, line by line.  I have used this to allow me to highlight a section that spanned two pages---I placed two fingers on the text, and moved them "up" until the full section was on the same page.  I also do this for starting a subheading or chapter at the top of the page, etc.  Works really nicely.  Used to bug the heck out of me when I would input a scripture reference and it would appear mid way through the screen, rather than at the top.  Now I can just move it to where I want it.

    Hi Dan

Just worth mentioning that David and Alabama posted before the two-finger scrolling was available.

So I expect it is a non-issue for them now

Highlighting the way iBooks does it is extremely efficient and easy to use.

I haven't used iBooks, but I have Kindle.  I would like to see a button that is "quick highlight" or something, that uses either the currently used style (whether yellow, underlined, or whatever) OR a default style that only changes when the default is changed.  With a "quick highlight, we select text, click "highlight" and that is it.  No more having a second screen to navigate and select "done."  There are times when I don't want multiple choices, and i DO want to conserve clicks, and for that, "quick highlight" would be terrific.

I can understand that desire… I think it would be a bit more challenging to implement within Logos. Highlighting is much more complicated within Logos than in Kindle… and there is a much greater potential for VERY large note files. Generally speaking, smaller note files work much better in Logos. If people could set up highlighting as you suggest, I think most probably would… and that would be a bad thing. ALL highlights from ALL resources going into ONE note file would be very bad. I do have a potential solution… but I am often ridiculed when I make it… [:P]

The solution would be for Logos to create resource specific note files for each resource. This is actually what I do now. The hassle is that file management becomes a challenge. My solution is to have these note files behind the scenes until needed. If this system were established, you could have a setting (perhaps by default), which would allow your highlights to automatically go into these files. This would help keep file sizes small, and would simplify highlights for most users. NOTE: I don't want the current system eliminated… there are great advantages to it, but for most users most of the time, I think my system would be preferable. Perhaps you could add a "quick highlighting" setting which would eliminate moving into the pallets. There could be 5-6 colors… This would need to be optional and turned off by default… otherwise users would not gain advantage of the great pallet features.

  • I was reading through something recently with Latin in the text (and I often look at the Vulgate). I would love to have the ability to set up keylinks (like was possible in the Old Logos) between certain resources to autosearch for references to phrases/words in a specific set. This could be tied to the "lookup" function that works well between Greek texts and BDAG, for example. It would also be great to expand the lookup feature in general since the language of the text is usually tagged (or at least it is in the desktop version), tying the Spanish to Spanish resources, Latin to Latin, etc.

It would also be great to be able to make a list (like favorites) for my favorite commentaries that do not have to be saved to open to a specific page. The favorites tool would be great for this except that it only allows me to open a resource to the page that it was on when I added the book to my favorites. What I would like, is to be able to glance at  a list of commentaries that I have prioritized, and choose one, and have it open in the second window to the passage that I am looking at in the first window. I can dink around with this now in the library tab, but I have to scroll through all commentaries, instead of just having a list of my favorite ones.

David has a great idea about the Bible's pagination for memory purposes. I agree it would be great if Logos could do this and set the pagination to standard print Bible models (ESV personal size etc.) so that our electronic devices would match our print Bible's pagination, but it seems like this would be a ton of work on Logos' side.

What I would like, is to be able to glance at  a list of commentaries that I have prioritized,

you can rate your commentaries ("star") and then "sort by rating" which will show your top rated commentaries for that book (say, "Hebrews").  The ones you have not rated, or rated poorly will show toward the bottom.

choose one, and have it open in the second window to the passage that I am looking at in the first window.

if your bible and commentary panels are linked and synced, then opening a new starred commentary will result in it opening to the passage you are studying (sometimes this is a little quirky, but essentially should behave properly)

EDIT: you link and sync your panels by pressing the little half circle that appears at the bottom or the right of the screen, depending on how you are holding your ipad.

'bama, i don't quite get this.  I am not sure why adding a "button" to the list of options (paste/cut/copy/search/highlight/whatever) that allows the selected text to be immediately highlighted by pressing a specific button would be a problem.  do you follow my train of thought on this reply?  peace, bro.  [:)]  i don't even want a list of 5-6 colors, just a button that highlights "yellow" or whatever the last used highlight from the pallet was.  I am not sure how a quick highlight button relates to file management (although I have noticed that being an issue when initiating notes from ipad).  Thanks for weighing in, J.  Eager for your reply.  :)

Dan- Every highlight creates a note somewhere. The current system, which is certainly more complicated than the simple Kindle system, provides you the opportunity to direct each highlight note into the correct note file. A system like Kindle would completely bypass the file management system. This would necessarily create VERY large note files for those who highlight frequently. By the way, those who want the simple system you suggest are often the people who highlight the most! I'm not opposed to the simplicity (which I rather like), but I see the hazards it presents. My suggestion above is for Logos to create resource specific note files for EVERY resource (which I do manually). Until this is done, a "simple" highlighting system would be unwise. [I'm from the school of though that Logos should not create any "feature" which could be detrimental to the end user. I think waiting 30 seconds for a highlight to show up is unexceptable... I can't imagine what would happen if ALL my highlight files were merged... Actually, I can. In early beta testing, my app crashed every minute. To solve the problem, I separated my highlight note file into resource specific note files... It took more than 12 hours. My note files have at least tripled or quadrupled... My highlighting really took off one I got it working on the IPad. ]
