Does anyone know what happens when a Vyrso ebook becomes available as a Logos4 resource?

For example,

I remember seeing this before. Essentially it is "the same resource" programatically.

Moving from a Vyrso book to a logos book generally means that more tagging is being added. Users who own the Vyrso book will receive the upgraded (new?) Logos book as a free upgrade, just as Logos is always upgrading books we already own.

    It's another perk. [y]

That's what I figure too. However, since the Vyrso version can be bought immediately or bought as individual titles (i.e. purchasers don't have to put themselves on the pre-pub queue), a pre-pub collection could end up lingering as a pre-pub for a very long time.

One poster previously mentioned that a Vyrso resource had later appeared as a Logos resource. Shortly after that post the book disappeared from the Vyrso shop so don't be surprised if that happens again with Viola. Get it while you can? Perhaps Logos has so many books available now that no one can keep track of them all!

    Thomas -

Logos has suggested that this might be the case, but I am unaware of any official word on the matter. Have you heard otherwise? Personally, I have advocated this many times. I think that it would be great to allow people to order a pre-pub Logos book, get the Vyrso edition while the Logos version is being created.

The new Logos editions will replace the Vyrso editions in your library when this ships. You will not have a duplicate book.

    But....

Here are a few thoughts on why you might choose to spend a little more on Vyrso books than you would elsewhere:

    1. One license for all your content. IMO, this is huge. If you go with another platform, your ebook reading and your Bible study are in two separate worlds with an insurmountable chasm between them. Your ebooks will never be accessible within your Bible study world, and your Bible study materials will never be accessibile in your ebook world. Buying Vyrso ebooks means all your content is available on all Vyrso apps, Logos apps, Biblia.com, and anywhere else we decide to make it available in the future.
    2. Tagged Bible references. It's not a knock-your-socks-off feature, but it is nice. And it's just one indication that demonstrates that we want to make the Christian ebook experience better. Other similar features may follow. It's highly unlikely the bigger players in the ebook market will ever implement Christian-specific features.
    3. Cross-library searching. Other ebook platforms may let you search a single book at a time. With Vyrso you can search across your entire library at once.
    4. Free upgrades? We probably aren't going to have Vyrso and Logos editions of the same books. We'll license one or the other. However, in some cases we may license a book in Vyrso format and later decide that it would be better as a Logos book. Don't quote me on this—it still needs more internal discussion—but one approach we could take in this situation is to give everyone a free upgrade to the Logos edition when we retire the Vyrso edition. So you may get the quality of a Logos book for the price of a Vyrso book.
    5. Help make Logos better. If Vyrso is a success for us, everyone wins. We'll have the ability to invest more resources not just into Vyrso, but into making Logos Bible Software an even more amazing product.

    (Emphasis added)

Given that Kent spoke more than 6 months later, I am assuming that he carries the weight of the internal discussions.

I'll send an email to Phil for clarification in this thread.

I'm not sure I understand why we need clarification.  They seem to be saying the same thing to me.

"Logos editions will replace the Vyrso editions in your library" (Kent) == "free upgrade to the Logos edition when we retire the Vyrso edition" (Phil)

Given that Phil says "probably" and indicated that further discussions were needed - I'd like a final statement.

Vyrso and Logos books are the same file format, and same technology. What's different is how they are created, the tagging and markup process, etc.

If/when we do a Logos edition of a Vyrso book, it would be delivered as an update of the book file -- the update would be automatic and free, just as updates to books are now when we fix typos, improve tagging, etc.

Conceivably we might license a "3rd edition" of a book and do it as a Logos edition, when the "2nd edition" had been a Vyrso title, and the publisher/Logos might choose to have this significantly different resource sold separately. (Like the NIV84/NIV2011, or the BAGD/BDAG lexicon.) But I think that's a rare scenario that reflects "essentially a new book."

If it's an update / change from eBook -> Logos Edition, there shouldn't be a charge, and the update should be invisible and automatic. And the resulting updated resource will continue to work in both Vyrso and Logos 4.
