Every time I try to add a PowerPoint file (does not matter if it .ppt
or .pptx) Proclaim reports that something ("an unexpected error
occurred") went wrong.

Do I check the upload "the local file" only box, or does this not matter?

I am on a Mac Mountain Lion.

Currently, Powerpoint import is not supported on Mountain Lion. We should shortly be releasing an update which will allow .ppt imports on Mountain Lion.
