It seems like not all previous content is available when I search for it. Is there something I need to do to save a hymn or song to be sure I can retrieve easily again for "next time"?
Giving each slide item a unique title will certainly help you find it later in the Reuse Items section.
What type of content are you missing after creating it? Do you still have the presenations that item was created in? In order for items to be available later you'll need to keep at least one presentation with that item in your library.
