Kindle Fire HD
I guess I'll be the first one to bring this up.
I just received the Kindle Fire HD today. When I went to download Logos Bible app it said it wasn't compatible. Is this _really_ the case? Could I download the beta version directly and use that? I've already set it to allow Unknown sources...but not sure if it will allow me to download the beta version or not.
Is anyone at Logos aware of why Amazon is showing that it is not compatible?
Peace!

I have an original Kindle Fire and the Logos app on Amazon works with it. I don't know what changes were made on the Fire HD that would cause Logos not to work.

Puh - I'm glad I choose the non-HD version on Amazon's PrePub then (they bring the Fire and the HD both for the first time to Germany on October 25th - and not at all to Austria, I hear). Well actually it was the dollars rather... I expect Logos to be compatible soon.

I am surprised to hear the app is not working for you on the Kindle Fire HD. Do the Logos Bible, Biblia and/or Faithlife Study Bible apps appear for you in the Amazon Market from your Kindle Fire HD?
Thanks for reporting this.

No, they don't show up in the Amazon store at all. I went to the website on my laptop, did a search for Logos, and it had an "X" next to my Kindle Fire HD.
I did go to a website, 1mobile.com, and sideloaded the Logos and Vyrso apps. I also noticed that Google Books doesn't work. Seems like Amazon is keeping everything "in house." Logos seems to work fine and so did Vyrso. Google Books...not so much.
One of the reasons I went with Fire HD is because I was going to use it mostly to read and do Amazon stuff....plus it had the HDMI out which, for me, was what caused me to purchase it over the Nexus. (FYI)

See the FAQ post regarding install locations. If you don't have access to the app via Google Play or Amazon Appstore I'd recommend downloading and installing the APK via our download page.

I completely understand the rationale. If you own a lot of Amazon content there's a very compelling argument to go with an Amazon branded device. I haven't checked out their new Kindle Fire HD models yet but we'll do our best to make sure Logos users can install the apps without needing to side-load them. Unfortunately much of this is outside our control. Amazon rarely provides any details why certain apps that they approve in their Appstore are not allowed on the Kindle Fire and typically just responds with a "check back later and see if it's available" sort of message. For the Kindle Fire they allow the Logos Bible, Biblia, and FSB apps, but never made Vyrso available. I'm going to be extremely disappointed if they don't allow any of our apps to be installed on the new Kindle Fire HD without side-loading.

After checking out Amazon's updated Kindle Fire Development guide it does appear they added some additional qualifiers to be eligible as an "HD App". There's still hope that with some minor tweaks we can get the app available on the new Kindle Fire HD series of devices without needing to sideload and we'll do what we can to make that happen.

Gabe, I apreciate your attention to this. We were just about to pull the trigger on purchasing several Kindle Fire HDs for our group. Although I recognize Logos' reluctance to predict schedules, please keep us in the loop on this. Thanks.

Thanks!
I've been using Logos on the Fire HD and it seems to work fine. One of the other issues I've noticed with Amazon's app store is that some of the apps I did download were older versions. If I want the newer versions, I have to sideload them. Then I'm not sure what happens when those apps get upgraded.
I assumed that Amazon wasn't allowing Logos because you both publish digital books. It is kind of in a different space, but some of the books are the same. Seems like Amazon doesn't want much competition on their Fire HD devices.

I had been looking forward to ordering the 8.9" Fire that is to come out in November but will probably look elsewhere for a tablet. I didn't realize that the Vyrso app had not been approved. Part of the great deal on Amazon Fire tablets is offset by Amazon's restrictiveness. I was wanting a tablet larger than a 7" one and did not feel the price of an iPad is justified for my use, hence the attractiveness of the 8.9" Fire.

I feel it is a fair trade off. As restrictive as it is, it allows the sideloading of apps (or installation from sources other than Amazon, although I do not believe Google Play Store will work). I was able to install Vyrso, Logos, and FLB without any trouble. However, if they approve Logos, then all the Vyrso books are available and the reading experience is just about the same.
I've only had it for a few days, but I like it so far. I have an Android phone and I would love the pure Android experience, but understand why Amazon is doing what they are doing.

I have tried checking the "installations of applications" as suggested by several, but to no effect with the Logos app. It seems odd that Kindle would block Logos when it allows the installation of Olive Tree.

After you do the "installations of applications" then you can go do http://downloads.logos.com/Android/Logos/beta/index.html to get the beta, or http://www.1mobile.com/ (or some other app place), download it, then install it. I ended up installing the 1mobile appstore to make things a bit easier.
I agree, it would be wonderful to have it in the Amazon app store.

Apples and oranges…. Olivetree has a good selection of books but a minor amount compared to Logos, the number of books in Logos Library might be seen as more a threat. Also since Logos is deigned primarily for online reading, maybe that may play some issue. As well as the fact Logos makes an ereader APP VYRSO, which may contravene an amazon shop policy. THESE are all just wild speculation on my part. Hopefully for all owners of fire HD Logos will get things worked out shortly.

THESE are all just wild speculation on my part.
Since there is nothing different in the kind of business models run by Amazon as well as by Logos between the introduction of Logos to the Kindle Fire (non-HD) and now, I'm much more inclined to believe the information we received above that Amazon put up some additional specs to ensure HD-compatibility of software available through their store and are simply not finished with re-evaluating the various Logos apps.
Looking forward to receiving my non-HD Fire in five weeks from now

Is anyone at Logos notifying Amazon that there are new versions available. The Amazon AppStore still has 2.0.11 which is the same version that Google Play has. I'm trying to keep my Kindle Fire clean and not side-load too much. I keep getting notifications that there is a newer version available (on my Kindle Fire) but when I download and try to install it, it fails. Is 2.0.11 the latest version?

Interestingly, the release dates on Amazon Appstore (11/2/11) and Google Play (8/27/12) vary wildly for the same numbered version. I'm confused.

Amazon has now approved the 2.1.2 versions of the Bible, Vyrso, and FSB apps. It would be helpful if someone with a Kindle Fire HD device could confirm that the apps are now available without needing to side load them.
One of the benefits of installing the apps from the Amazon Appstore is a higher resolution launch icon.
Still waiting on Biblia approval but that should be coming soon.

October 2, setting up my children's HD. Still no Vyrso. Curious abut something else, I signed in, but don't see my library, just a handful of arcane books and a couple bibles.
I like Apples. Especially Honeycrisp.
