Hi Folks

When compiling PBB's sometimes using Microsoft Office 2010 I find when they are transferred into Logos4 that some of the sentences are showing partly on one line and partly on the other meaning that the document doesn't look right. Any ideas as to what I might be doing wrong when I'm compiling in Office 2010 to cause this to happen? Thanks for any help. Gerald

Can you provide screen prints of the PB and the .docx documents.  For the screen print, can you please turn on "show all formatting marks."   You change this setting by clicking on file, options, display.  thanks

    Hi Here we go!

    Gerald,

your docx shows that every single sentence in your document is a paragraph (the P-looking character as the end of the line). I was guessing something like this, and Tom probably too, as he asked you to turn on the display of such characters.

I'd advise you to do a replace all of "^p" with " " (^p [for Word indicates the paragraph mark] with simple space) - but this may kill some formatting, so you'll want to go over it again afterwards.

Yes, this is what I was thinking too.  What I would do is to put some symbol string like "~!~" where every actual paragraph break is.  Then I would change all of the parapgrah marks to spaces, then I would change all "~!~" to paragraphs.

    Hi Tom

Thanks for your help. Unfortunately your idea doesn't seem to work. I followed each step you outline but when I bring the file into Logos4 you can see the end result in the example I have sent as an attachment. When I take a look at the saved docx file before transferring it to Logos4 everything seems OK. Just wondering if the problem has to do with the way I got the file initially. I copied a PDF file and then brought it into Word 2010. Has this any bearing on the end result? Thanks for any help you can offer on a very frustrating problem.

    Hi Gerald,

it still looks like that each line ends with a paragraph mark.  If you look at your word document again with displaying 'all formatting,' you should see what is happening.  It takes a while to figure out what why is the best way for you to convert a PDF file into a PB.  There are many PDF to DOCX converters, some are better than others, and the best ones will only do an okay job in the conversion.  It takes a lot of time to do what you are doing.  I have simply given up in making my PB look pretty when they come from a PDF.
