Historical Highlighting

Greetings,
I have a question on highlighting. I did go to the forum concerning this topic but did not find anything on it.

Here is the condition of my question: having over 3500 books, I sometimes study using several books at once. I might find good comments on several books. I then highlight the comments within the books. I may end up highlighting dozens of books in different times. Well after some days or weeks, I want to go back to my highlighted comment but forgot where it was or what book I used. I don't want to create a new layout everytime I highlight because the highlighting may be only one sentence.
And because L4 does not have a good way to store my bookmarks I cannot create bookmarks in this fashion either. (I do create bookmarks, but not like this. . .) This has always baffle me about L4 of not being able to simply insert a bookmark with only one click. . . !! And then look it up later . . . !!! Other cheaper bible software have this option, but not L4. . . !!!
Anyway. . . Therefore. . .
Is there any way that in L4, I can search my green hightlighting, my red or whatever color hightlighting and have it displayed so that I can get a resulting column on my left side of the screen and click on the highlighted text and bring up the book? Does L4 stores a database of highlighted texts so that I can get access to it later without doing anything else? No new layout, no new workspaces and so forth. . . Only a inquiry and a resulting database I can use. The fewer the clicks, the better. I should be able to just:
Right click on the text. . .
  Insert hightlight. . .
  Insert bookmark. . .
  Search historical highlighting. . .
Any comments on this?

Thank you for your input. . .

    Alfred all good points.

I'm not sure why Logos deviates from what might be viewed as 'the norm'. In any event, instead of mouse-clicking, they assigned the bookmarking to the keyboard and/or keeping the favorites/bookmarking panel open.

Ditto on the non-intuitiveness of searching highlights etc.

Logos was designed to search text so it has not been possible to get a search for highlighting without specifying some text or the wildcard * (which takes a long time).

Inserting a bookmark (as a Favorite) is probably the best way to track your highlights; store them in a folder appropriate to your project.

    Dave,
Thank you for your response. I will give this a try. However, I do wish that L4 or L5 would simplify the process with only the right click making available any menu item needed for the task at hand. Again, I've used other bible programs in which highlighting and searching items were done with only one right click. I'm sure that Logos has the skills to implement such facilities in the program, since today almost anything is possible in code! If I knew the API of L4 I just might try to fit this into the program since I know a little of programming. But. . . alas. . . L4 continues to be developed into a giant program that seems to sink into a more complicated processes than just to use the program for an edifying bible study experience. People have already asked me about L4 and that it looks intimidating and hard to grasp the fundamental functions of bible study. Several people have already asked me how get a simple bible study out of the program!!

Thanks Dave for your time. . .

Many blessings to you. . .

I agree with you Al,  unfortunately Logos sees things differently from my memory of discussions on these sort of issues in the past.  They believe users dont' want cluttered right click menus with multiple levels of fly-out menus.    I am not sure on what they base this assumption, I'd like to see more from the right click menu, particularly in regards to highlighting.  I think its more about it making it simpler for them to train support staff.

You might be aware but you can assign short cut keys to your favourite highlights.  Simply select the text then press your shortcut key.  e..g I have assigned Y to yellow so if I want to apply a yellow highlight I select the text and press Y.

I know that doesn't help with everything but just wanted to highlight this feature in case you were not aware.

it looks intimidating and hard to grasp the fundamental functions of bible study. Several people have already asked me how get a simple bible study out of the program!!

Can be more specific in what you see as not being simple.  The highlighting problem is a great start, but what other things are troubling you with the software. If you can be more specific someone might be able to help out.

    Dave,
Thank you for your response. I will give this a try.

An alternative is to ensure all your highlights are saved in a specific Note file, which you nominate in the Highlighting tool OR simply select text, right click and use "Add a Note to"  (but open the Note file first). This "Note colour" can be changed in the Note file.

Later on just open the Note file (or files) and you have access to all the highlights. But once in a resource you can search for specific Highlighting!
