I'm considering buying the new Microsoft Surface. Is there a Logos app available for this tablet? And is it as good as the mobile app for Apple products?
A mobile app just recently appeared in the Microsoft App store. It is VERY basic right now. I haven't had much of a chance to test drive it yet, but currently it looks like it is just a basic ONLINE ONLY reader (think Biblia as an app - without anything more than a basic search).
Yes, the current version is very basic but we are working hard to match the functionality provided by the Logos Bible app on the iOS and Android platforms. Expect updates every few weeks.
Question for Logos: I noticed in the Windows App Store that the supported processors are only x86 and x64 for the Logos Bible App. Is there a plan to support ARM Processors like that in the Surface in the near future? I expect to see great updates in the near future but it would be a shame if I was unable to run the app on a tablet like the Microsoft Surface.
Yes we will support ARM devices, we're actully woking on it right now.
This is AWESOME Scott--thanks very much!
If you purchase the Surface RT, there is an app for it I believe. If you purchase the Surface Pro 128 GB, you can install your Logos software onto it. When you do that, you are able to use your program, even if you are not connected to the internet. It is really handy at church or Bible study!
How well does the full version of Logos work on the Surface Pro?
I have the Silver version, and it works as well on my Surface as it does on my desktop computer. The only problem that I see is the size of the screen. When reading the Bible on it, I cannot make it bigger by stretching it, although I could probably increase the display size. I recommend using one of the keyboards with it also, rather than the touch screen. I have close to 80 GB of space left on the hard drive also. I do not use all the features of Logos, but it seems like it wouldn't matter as far as usability and responsiveness.
How Does The Surface Pro Run Logos You Ask??.......Well In My View...EXCELLENT! I waited for the Surface pro JUST FOR LOGOS! I use OneNote (have for years) and using that along with LOGOS is a, well a..."Thank you Lord" thing I just LOVE the Wacom pen enabled screen and the no-lag writing and stylus usage (but I am a long-time tablet PC user, so I love to be able to write on the screen)
Logos 5 Platinum runs faster on my Surface than on my 3 year old HP Elite i7 160gb SSD w/8gb Ram (which is a screamer in my view too)...Surface Pro ROCKS!
I really do love it...It works great with all my layouts, and the screen is so sharp, that it is easy to do exegesis. If you need to, you can certainly up the font or overall size of your layouts...but all I have set is my font to 110%. My Surface Pro is running the default 150% screen size...although many use 125%...I find that a bit hard on MY eyes lol.
I even use my Pro to preach...the screen is just excellent! Your sermons are just a "swipe" (or click) away[H]

I have been on a trek over the past month or two to settle on a Windows 8 tablet. I started with the Samsung ATIV 500t with the Atom processor. It was great for everything except Logos.
Then, I tried out a Samsung ATIV 700t, which a number of folks on the Logos forum have purchased. I found that it ran Logos great. I took that tablet back because I didn't like the 11.6-inch form factor. The 700t did not run hot and got surprising battery life for a Core I5 tablet. But, it was too big for me.
Next, I tried out the Lenovo Thinkpad Tablet 2, which also has the same Atom processor as the ATIV 500t, except in a 10.1-inch form factor that weighed less than any other tablet on the market. It was the best tablet for everything -- looks, build quality, inking in One Note, battery life, form factor -- except once again, it couldn't run Logos. When I bought it I was hoping against hope that it would run Logos acceptably. Alas, it did not. I even tried installing Libronix on it with the hope that the Atom processor and 2 GB of RAM would work. That failed. I would have stayed with the TPT2 if Logos' Modern UI app had any semblance of feature parity with the Android version. However, Logos has declared publicly it is in a wait-and-see mode to determine if there is a sufficient market for Windows 8 tablets before it develops this app any further. Well with that vote of no confidence, back went the TPT2.
Now I have the Surface Pro. As Preacherman says, it runs Logos very well. I can scroll through screens with touch, highlight, and do all the things I couldn't do on the Atom-based Windows tablets. The Surface Pro has a 10.6-inch screen, which is as big as I want to go with a tablet because I want to hold this thing and read from it comfortably. The Surface Pro isn't perfect -- the digitizer calibration is a little off, the unit runs hot if you don't adjust the power settings, and battery life is the worst of all the tablets I have tried out. However, I have tweaked the power settings so that the Surface Pro does not run hot for me and am finding the battery life acceptable.
I have the 128Gb Surface Pro. Love having full version of L5 in my lap during worship.
SUGGESTION: First improvement to the Win8 App needs to be incorporating the reference search interface that is in the Faithlife Study Bible iOS app. 3 clicks (Book, chapter, verse) is much quicker than onscreen keyboard input into the search window when a preacher is doing a topical message and skipping all over the Bible.
Can I get an AMEN?

Amen! congrats David. It would be very nice if you could allow us to see some screenshots of Logos in surface pro.
Here is a screen capture of my L5 Layout that I use on my Surface when in worship or small groups.
I can't seem to get the snipping tool to work in the Win8 Logos App.
EDIT: Here is a hint for all Surface models where there is not PrtScr button on the keyboard - Press volume Down and the Windows logo at the bottom of your touchscreen to do a Screen Capture.
Here is what the ESV looks like in the Win8 app on the Surface.
Tes asked for images from the Microsoft Surface...
Here is a screenshot of the main screen in the Win8 APP (Tiles are of books I recently opened)
If you click on the "See all Library" tile the program displays this (Notice: I filtered for "Lexham" resources in my Library)
Congratulations on the tablet. Having a portable and complete version of Logos is awesome!
The verse picker would definitely be handy on Windows 8 touch devices. I started posting issues like this a week or so ago. If anyone sees things I've missed (and I'm sure I've missed a lot) in those sections I've looked through, please add to those threads. I've still got notes I need to get together on other areas, but what I have so far is in these threads:
Randy (Shayne),
Those are some well-presented observations and I truly appreciate the tone with which they are presented. You truly seem to want to help Logos produce a better product without whining about the current state of the program. THANK YOU for your tone.
Dave
David, we appreciate you and I do personally as you steered me here (oops - I actually had never been in this part of Logos forums) and I can daydream about using Windows 8 Pro on a Tablet once I win the lottery now (though I realize that may not be a Godly pursuit...the Lottery I mean).
UPDATE: I found that opening the Index (the << in the upper left corner of the pane) allowed me to click on the book of the Bible, then the chapter quickly then it was easy to use the touch interface to scroll to the verse.
Chad (original poster) From everything I read Logos 5 doesnt work fully or properly on any android or Windows 8 Pro machine (I know they are different os) at all.
What a shame. I am hoping for a Tablet Application - preferably with full 5.0 functionality - in the near future. Will keep praying.
Slow, expensive, and unable to Highlight as I read and take notes....not good!

The Bible! app in the Microsoft Store doesn't allow highlighting.
Or note-taking or search or parallel texts [:(]
Speaking of the latter, the Surface RT's extra-wide screen would probably accommodate three parallel texts, which would be quite nice.

Dave. I am hoping for an inexpensive tablet that runs all of Logos 5 efficiently just like my laptop. I really am not confused despite NOT using the right lingo here.
I can say I own a go-cart and it runs - but I defy anyone to tell me I should put it on the highway and try to change lanes [:)]
We really want Logos to put full functionality into its new Windows version of the app so split screens and similar working features are there.
Touch functionality is almost non-existant from what I have read.
Not having highlighting in the app is a major - forget it and wait - concern for me.

I return often to a local branch of a nationwide chain of electronics stores and tried the Surface Pro yet again...this time going to Biblia.com
The SP (not the RT version) would not permit me to grow the font and the slider bar to increase the font would only move so far - with difficulty. Worse the backlighting and the overhead lighting made the screen hard to read and it tires the eyes quickly.
Also, I need a better dpi (screen resolution) and something I can hook up easily to my Samsung (non-touchscreen) larger horizontal widescreen monitor and I keep thinking thats not simple because of windows scaling issues.
My chief complaint is not the lack of volume on the SP and not even that it can heat up a bit and has inferior battery life - but is now primarily - it is just not readable as in not sharp enough to read my textbooks in Logos and things like Kindle or Googlebooks.
Before everyone suggests a Kindle, Nook, etc...I am seeking an all purpose Windows laptop replacement preferably with a detachable keyboard and one that functions primarily as an ereader - until I want the power and search capabilities of Logos. Yup I want it all and affordable too.[:D]
Still waiting and hoping. (Light sigh)

1920x1080 pixels is plenty sharp for me on a 10" Surface Pro screen. (And that is at 125% scaling. If I do 100% scaling the fonts look even sharper, but quite small for touch interaction)

JoshInRI, your wishes may be one step closer to reality. Dell appears to be offering a new Win8 (non ATOM option). By picking the specs that you want, you may be able to beat the Surface Pro 2's price if you are willing to compromise on certain specs - http://www.informationweek.com/hardware/handheld/microsoft-surface-vs-dell-venue-tablet-r/240162269
Mr. Thomas....this looks quite promising. Thanks.
I own a windows surface and I love it because its like looking at my computer, however the apps for Logos stop working on my computer and tablet, both are windows. I'm trying now to get the problem fixed with logos, and down loading version 5 is not the problem. Once this is corrected I would say yes to having it on my surface.
Do you have the Surface or the Surface Pro? Logos 5 works on the Pro. The app (from the Windows Marketplace) that is supposed to work on Surface RT and Surface Pro stopped working with the latest release of Reverse Interlinear tagged Bibles. See this thread - http://community.logos.com/forums/t/75840.aspx
I have a surface RT with windows 8.l RT. I love it because it gives me the best of both worlds. I can preach and teach from it as a tablet and use it as a laptop. The present logos app does what I need it too but I would love to see the reading plan be integrated and control over what books in my library display when I open the app. I had an android tablet but the surface tab is much more versatile.
Did anyone see that the price on the 1st Generation Surface PRO (the one that runs Logos 5 beautifully!) just dropped the price another $300? http://www.microsoftstore.com/store/msusa/en_US/pdp/productID.275287300?Icid=SurfaceCat_Hero_Rot_Surface_Pro_Savings_Bundle_01.03.14
[:)] I saw it dropped but doesnt included a keyboard. I keep thinking I should make the leap to the old almost affordable previous version.
What am I missing out on if I do not go to Surface 2 besides the too much touted mult-level kickstand?
Is this your (or can it be my) replace it all one machine for everything device (except answering calls) I mean.
Josh,
The differences between the Surface Pro and Surface Pro 2 are:
There's other stuff, like more SkyDrive storage that you get for free with the SP2.
The improved kickstand of the SP2 may be valuable to you or it may not.
Both will run Logos well.
I have a Microsoft Surface Pro 3 and the full Logos system runs on it without a drama. I have Logos Portfolio and it runs smoothly. Mind you will need the larger hard drive for all of the resources.
The full LOGOS 7 software works on the Microsoft Surface Pro line. The Surface runs in normal full Windows 10 mode as well as Tablet Mode, and LOGOS runs in both modes.
Alan, welcome to the forums.
I just switched my Surface Pro 4 to tablet mode and it does appear that Logos is working in tablet mode. This hasn't been the case in the past. It's been buggy. I'm going to have to work with this a bit to make sure it is stable. If so, then I'll be happy because the only reason I have run my SP4 in laptop mode is because of Logos.
I finally sold my SP1 Original and now have the SP3 which I may also sell to upgrade to the 4 some day soon. Praise God.
