This seems like a simple question but I can't get find an answer.

I've read that Logos 5 Mac is a lot zippier, which makes me want to update. But I can't afford to update my library right now. Can I upgrade the software without updating the resources?

This Post from Bob Pritchett (the CEO of Logos) should clear things up for you.

Short answer: you can't get Logos 5 right now without buying a big expensive package, but in the future you'll have two additional options:

    a) purchase a minimal crossgrade, which will give you all the new features and databases for something under $100 OR

    b) download the Logos 5 engine for free, which will give you the speed, stability, and interface improvements without any of the new features that rely on databases that weren't included in Logos 4.

Exactly when these will be available is up in the air. All we've heard is "soon" and "after the initial launch period."

Logos is becoming too expensive for me to maintain.  They took away features from Logos 3 and made me pay for Logos 4.  Now those features are coming back in Logos 5 and I have to pay again to get those features back again.

Most people in ministry are struggling with finances.  A $300 upgrade is NOT something that I cherish.  I am forgoing Windows 8, Office 2013, and a host of other upgrades.  I am not made of money. I am a poor servant of Christ who just needs to preach the word.

Myself and many other Logos users are FED UP at this pricing fiasco.

    Derek,

I don't know how much of the Forums you've read, but you do not have to pay $300 to get Logos 5. If you haven't read what will be available for free or at a lower cost see: http://community.logos.com/forums/t/58259.aspx

You can stay with Logos 4 indefinitely and have lost nothing. If you wait, one of the other upgrading options Bob talks about above will be available.

To be fair... indefinitely?  I implement and support software and I know that as OS' advance, base application packages lose support and compatibility.  It would be great if it did stay and remain compatible, but I sincerely do not see that as possible.

    indefinitely

Indefinitely, not forever. I didn't say forever. I plan to be in heaven not indefinitely, but forever. There is a difference.
