It seems that the upgrade path in two steps is about $250 more than a one-time upgrade from L4 Scholars to L5 Silver in one step.
Yep, the same for me. I've posted this elsewhere: "The upgrade calculator definitively seems to be broken. It now correctly says that "You own Logos 5 Minimal Crossgrade" but it no longer seems to take into account my previously owned packages. As a result the upgrades to Bronze and above are significantly higher than they were before the Crossgrade purchase."

If you see Phil's post above you are being treated as a L5 base package owner and getting the lower discounts compared to being treated as a L4 base package owner. That status may change, though!

Not complaining at all. I am quite happy with the cross-grade, I can't really afford to get to L5 Silver by any route.
I just found it interesting that the total cost to upgrade to L5 Silver goes up A-LOT post cross-grade. I can understand a slight increase in cost for the "two-step" route over just upgrading directly. But this way it would be $250+ more. It seems that after paying for the cross-grade, if one were, for some reason, to upgrade to L5 Silver it would be reduced by the cost of the cross-grade or at least some factor of the cross-grade. After all, one would have just added a certain amount of resources and data sets to the L5 package. With all the issues the upgrade calculator has been through in the last two weeks, I wonder if this is a possible issue/unforeseen or unintended consequence.
Again, I love this product and I am happy with this Logos 5.
This is because the L4 -> L5 discounts are 15-25% while the L5 -> L5 discounts are only 5-15%.
Bronze was 440 before the crossgrade, and is now 200, silver was 600+ and is now 401$... For me it was a net decrease in price, with the same discount schedule as before.

I'll let you in on a little secret. There is something preventing us from setting the correct price for Minimal Crossgrade for Logos 5 Silver users (which will get you the Bible Senses database). We're working to adjust it. In the meantime, you're getting a really extra great deal. If you're on the fence, don't wait.
Wait... wait? Who's waiting [:P]
I happened to see this post at 4:00AM, upgraded to Silver then got the Minimal Cross-grade for € 4.80. Already all installed and indexed.

Thanks Logos, I definitely plan to get this. To me, going from 4 to 5 with all new functionality of 5 is an upgrade but whatever you want to call it for marketing purposes doesn't matter to me. [:)] So, effectively you increased my planned business of upgrading my V4 Bible Study Library to the $159 Crossgrade, instead of the $70 Starter. Bronze never was an option due to budget. (some day, hopefully) Blessings to you.

You are quite right Phil, I was expecting to pay 19.95 for the crossgrade; in order to get the Bible Sense database. I previously upgraded to L5 Silver about a week or so ago; so $6.64 is ok with me [H].

I assume youre on L4 Silver? I believe others who spoke were on L5 Silver and thus the MC gives them only the last missing bit from the new features and databases (or, the other way round: the dynamic pricing calculator reflects that they already own nearly everything in the MC).

Patrick, I am interested in your thoughts on how L5 works on your Mac... of course you probably went back to sleep and haven't had a chance to try it out yet... but when you do please chime in.

I upgraded my Logos 4 Scholar to Logos 5 Silver and this morning, I did a minimal Crossgrade upgrade for around 6$, which added the Bible Sense Lexicon feature. Awesome!
By the way, @John Fidel: I'm running Logos 5 on a Mac and I'm very happy! (i7, 3.4 Ghz, with 8 Gb Ram, standard Hard Drivee 7200 RPM.)

Hi — I'm still awake, looking around at everything and using Mark Barnes video for an intro. If you mean by "how L5 works on your Mac" how it is performing and running, then I would say so far quite OK.
I already, some time ago, finished with the download of the 1.7 GB of update resources. The indexing went fairly fast with all four physical CPU cores being used.
Overall again I would say version 5 is performing well, I put that down to the upgrades to .NET & Mono. I am running a 2011 iMac with i7 3.4 GHz processor & 16 GB of RAM. The application is only using 990 MB and there is still a lot free (unallocated) so Logos 5 could grab more memory.
Doing silly shotgun queries like the word 'love' in entire library where I get 238,298 results in 83,221 articles in 1,328 resources (0.75 sec) I see all cores are used and the total CPU load goes up to 130% (but that's spread over 4 hyperthreaded = 8 virtual cores so each core is not at all stressed). I see that now when there is a huge dataset returned it does not display all results in the query window which is good — I'm pretty sure that was not so in Logos 4 (or if it was they changed it in some recent version).
I did one of my nasty tests — bringing up Text Comparison tool and entering 'Isaiah', the whole book. Logos still goes a bit berserk and only one core is used with CPU @ 100% and CPU temp going from 36º to 50º (see screenshot below done after it finished). Because one core is fully maxed out even though the other 3/7 cores are idle the system is maxed out.
It would be good if Logos could improve this as per this previous discussion http://community.logos.com/forums/p/58582/418743.aspx#418743 . Having said all that, even when it was struggling it was definitely better behaved than Logos 4. Of course during normal usage the CPU usage went nowhere up to 100%.
So far I have had only one hard application crash, it just dropped into the OS.
I'm still looking around enjoying the new features and will be able to comment more later — I would say again though that for any Logos 4 Mac user it's a 'no brainer', esp. the Crossgrade.

I am confused as anything!! Can someone please explain to me why the "Minimum Crossgrade" (sounds like the minimum, right?) would cost me $159.95 and the "Starter Upgrade" would be $53.55? The latter would get me far more new books. Would I not be getting several new Logos 5 features? The whole Logos 5 thing seems downright designed to not make any sense. If I were to "upgrade" I have next to no idea what I'd be spending the money for!
I currently have an L4 Scholar's Library with several individual purchases added.
Thanks if anyone can make things more or less plain!

Matt

Yes, but it wouldn't get you all the datasets, especially not the expensive ones (like biblical senses) Logos took years to develop. Also, the books in the MC are more technical/scholarly thus more expensive.
Matt Eide said:If I were to "upgrade" I have next to no idea what I'd be spending the money for!
Then maybe it would help to either study the long list on the Compare pages or, if this looks confusing, call CS to explain it to you.
Hope this helps at least a bit,

The Starter package gives you a few new resources, the L5 Engine, but none of the data sets that make L5 shine.
The Minimum Crossgrade give you all the new data sets that enable all those new features. It will also add a few resources that are necessary to make the data sets work optimally.
If you look at a package comparison page, scroll to the very bottom of the page to see the new data sets,
Adam Turner said:I just upgraded from L4 Silver to L5 Silver - do I need to do the Minimum Cross Grade as well?
You would need to MC in order to get the Bible Sense Lexicon. Others in your situation have reported a cost of around $7 US for this upgrade.

Got it - that's really weird that those datasets and features wouldn't be included in a $270 upgrade package...

Sean, who was in charge of at least part of the development of those data sets, reported that the bible Sense Lexicon employed 3 full time graduate level language experts working since the first of the year to build. And they are still working to expand the BSL.
That makes $7 seems like a rather small price.
0 -
The $6.14 is a small price... I just wonder why that wasn't rolled into the upgrade. I wonder how many people upgrade, thinking that they've got everything, yet are missing out on that final piece. Just a little confusing.

Adam Turner said:

It depends how you look at it. The L4 to L5 Silver upgrade is actually a resource (books) increase + part of the data sets, about to 70% and really shouldn't be considered an 'upgrade' but an expansion. To get all the data sets one would need to be on Logos 5 Gold or above. Gold costs a lot of money.
The Crossgrade is actually the real 'upgrade' from L4 to L5 and is priced attractively. However for the best bang-for-buck a lot of people are going to L5 Silver then getting the Crossgrade. If one buys the Crossgrade after the Logos 5 Silver 'expansion' then the Crossgrade price drops to about $6.
It's a good deal. The whole naming of L4 collections vs L5 collections and 'upgrading' has confused a lot of people, you're not alone.
Recommendation: 'upgrade' to Logos 5 Silver then do real upgrade to Logos 5 Crossgrade.

This may have been a(another) un-intended glitch.
Phil Gons was going to re-visit it today.
Because you bought the "Minimum" first it now sees you as an L5 "base set" owner and you thereby now only qualify for a lower % on up-grades.
If this is not corrected soon, and you did wish to get a package, then call Logos.
Either ask for a better price OR cancel the upgrade to Minimal.
Then buy the desired package.
THEN get the minimal. It will then cost you less, also.
Hope this is clear.

As has been noted elsewhere, that is because at this point Logos treats you as having upgraded to L5 and you have lost the larger discounts that you saw coming from L4. We've been told Logos is discussing if this is in fact what they want to happen. I, for one, would like to see the discounts restored. It seems unfair not to know this ahead of time, and unfair to not take into account your purchase of the MC in further upgrade pricing.
EDIT: Steve gave you a more complete answer. If you did want to upgrade, do as he suggested, cancel MC.

For those that have the L4 Bible Study Library...I upgraded from it to L5 Starter for $66 last week and last night purschased the MC for $99. So a few dollars more than the $160 MC. I think I received a one or two new resources with the L5 Starter upgrade but I'm not sure. Either way, still a great price.

I had L4 Scholar's Gold, bought minimal crossgrade for $135.xx... If I ever do want to upgrade to a package, I must start all over again. I kind of feel like a minimal customer, now...after spending over $1800.00.

Bill,
Where does the idea that you 'have to start all over again' come from? In order for that to be the case, wouldn't you have had to experience a loss of what you started with before? What have you lost? The title of your package? Did they take any resources from you?
This kinda thinking baffles me. I thought about preaching, "What's in a Title?" Sunday but my congregation doesn't read these forums... HAHA.
Peace, my brother. You're not a second hand citizen in the Logos hierarchy. You have the SAME package you had before.... Only, now, you have the brand new, shiny Logos 5 feature set to go along with it. That, by any definition, is an UPGRADE.
Enjoy.

Well, I am not worried about a title - like "Gold user". But, here is what I see - before the crossgrade, the L5 Gold for me was $500.xx. But, that was more than I could do. I got the minimal crossgrade for $135.xx. Now, each package has increased, not decreased. Now, the Gold is $575.00 for me. So, it looks like I lost $135.xx + ($575 - $500 = $$75) or about $200.xx if I wanted to upgrade to Gold again... It seems like Gold should now be $365 instead of $575.

That is an issue in how Logos handles the Minimal Crossgrade that they are still discussing. It seems unfair to have bought the functionality and datasets in other packages and not receive credit for them proportional to what you paid for them. The other issue is that Logos treats you as someone who has upgraded to L5 and therefore your discounts for further upgrades diminish. Logos is discussing this issue. I hope a change will be made for you and all the others who have seen this disparity in pricing.

I upgraded from L 4 Scholars to L 5 Silver and got all of the new Data Sets with the exception of the Bible Sense Lexicon (which comes with L 5 Gold and up -- an additional $500 over L5 Silver). I then purchased the Bible Sense Lexicon Data Set for $6.18 as an add-on to L 5 Silver. The entire expense was only about what Logos wanted (previously) to upgrade me from L 4 Scholars to L4 Silver (not L 5).
So one way to look at it is -- I upgraded from Basic Scholars L 4 to Silver L 5 an got the L5 Framework and ALL of the new Data Sets (essentially) for free (after I purchased the Bible Sense Lexicon for $6.18 an an add-on).
If you are thinking about upgrading at all from L 4 Scholars to L 5 Silver, be sure you purchase L 5 Silver BEFORE you purchase the Minimal Cross grade (for the single lacking Data Set) -- it will be cheaper that way.

As an L4 package owner you got 15 - 20% promotional discount. After the Crossgrade you only get 0 - 5% discount and the discounted value of the MC features is lower than $135 because of the lower cost per resource overall in Gold.

Very few, if any resources were added to my library with the L5 Starter upgrade from my L4 Bible Study Library. Maybe I'm wrong, but I think I basically received the $159 MC in two installments.
