Missing Books

I have Logos 5 Portfolio installed on my desktop, notebook, and iPad. The notebook is 4 years old and Logo shows. 6867 resources. The desktop is 2 years old and shows 6823 resources, I understand the shortage of resources on my iPad, but something is very wrong when 44 resources. It would seem to me the Logos system should be able to audit and match each system at startup. If any resources are missing from one computer, then the system should copy the missing resources over to the second computer. Further, if there is a discrepancy, then the system should report the names of the missing books to the owner.

Actually startup time is the one thing which I'm least satisfied speed-wise with Logos... In cases as yours, the command "Update resources" should help to "audit" your system against the Logos database and send you all that's missing.

EDIT: Another thought: did you build Personal Books on one machine only and/or deleted them from the other? I think the book data in the library synchronize between machines, but this may not have been the case always, or may not be valid for PB hiding/deletion. Hidden books may be a further area to look at.

Not sure if this applies to your situation, but check your "Personal Books" (I believe they are called PBB). I have a discrepancy of 15 books/resources between my netbook and desktop. PBBs don't carry over from one system to the other, and they have to be installed manually.

The command "update resources" does not add the missing books.

I would call customer support. They have the ability to remotely connect to your computer (with your permission of course) to see what needs to be fixed.

I know there have been threads about this in the past - I think one smart solution is making a full bibligraphy and comparing these e.g by putting into Excel columns or use the Word version comparison tool.

Have you ever run a bibliography with 6800+ resources? You might want to re-read the suggestion in my original post.

On the computer with less resources: open library; click a resource; press Ctrl/Cmd-a to select all resources; press the "i" to open the info side bar; press add tag and give it a name like "blah". Depending on the speed of your computer wait a minute or five for it to apply the tag to your whole library; then click the sync icon to force it so sync.

When that's done, go to the computer with more resources; force it to sync; go into library and search for: -mytag:blah

See what turns up...

Your suggestion of changing the system does not immediately help anybody, including yourself. Rereading it would not change that fact. Sure, maybe the suggestion is worth considering (in which case, a Logos employee... not NB.Mick... would have to do said considering). But even so, a change to the "system" is not a quick fix. The bibliography would probably be faster.

With that said, unless you can get Logos to fix the problem for you, either through system commands or via a tech support call (etc.), you don't have many options besides a manual look through your library to see what's missing and determine what needs to be done.

Edit: The idea Jon posted above me is pretty good. Wouldn't take too long.

WARNING: Do NOT do this if you're already using tags!!! You would have to remove every one of those 'blah'-tags manually! There is no way to remove one tag from all resources without also removing all other tags on those resources.

But if you don't use tags it's a good idea. If I remember correctly, though, the filter would need to be rating:>=0 -mytag:blah.

Another option would be to use ratings. You can rate all of them at once and then sort by rating in the library. Same concept as with the tags, but is another option you can do if you use tags and don't use ratings.
