Ah, but your posts provide valuable information. Cool

Yeah, there is a big difference. In fact, I think that if a post is lame, it should subtract -1 from your count. Embarrassed

    Let's see, subtract -1 = +1 ?  N'est-ce pas?

    I thought as much brother!

In all seriousness though, I suppose one reason is that this thread and the "How to Hijack" threads are not divisive like some other threads.  So, at least in the minds of some, that is an important difference.  I have not posted any "stay on topic" things though, so that is must a wild guess and my 2 pence :-)

Ted, isn't this statement taken out of context? It was in a thread entitled "Roman Catholic Resources" where the initial post was someone expressed dismay at getting RC resources in a base package. It apparently degenerated into a huge Protestant, Roman Catholic debate (I didn't bother to read most of it, but it was pretty obvious). Damian as a RC priest was probably frustrated with the tenor of the debate; he was right to request its stoppage. The original post talked about the contents of a base package, an appropriate topic. It became a theological debate, not appropriate; forums can become hostile places when sectarian hackles get raised.

This thread, however, exists purely for fun. In a sense it is a meta-discussion of the Logos forum experience where member who make a significant number (both in quantity and memorability [666]) of posts get recognized. Is it off topic, of course. Is it a problem? I doubt it. I've observed that for most posters of volume, it is threads like this that foster a sense of camaraderie and encourages them to keep offering serious help in other threads.

Please note that I am no longer an MVP.

It is precisely because of that other thread that I requested to have my star removed [But, please note that I did not request that the thread be dropped until well after the discussion about Catholics was over].

That thread has left a very bitter taste in my mouth wrt these forums. How anyone in there right mind could think it appropriate to discuss whether Catholics are Christians or whether they preach a "Gospel of Works" on a site dedicated to bible software owned by a company that both employs Catholics and has devoted considerable energy to developing Catholic resources over the last couple of years is absolutely beyond me.

If I want to participate in forums which discuss whether Catholics are Christians or whether they preach a "Gospel of Works", I can find a thousand sites in which such views are frequently espoused, opposed, and defended. Similarly, I have no desire to participate in a forum which discusses the necessity of water baptism or whether Regeneration precedes Faith in the Ordo Salutis.

[Ted, I took your comments in the spirit with which they were offered]

Probably because those other threads are basically helpful and off topic post derail someone's train of thought. Besides, as Joe mentioned, off topic posts in those threads tend to become heated discussions (discussions as we Christians never argue). Personally, I have learned much from some of the off-topic discussions.

This thread (and the Hijack thread), on the other hand, are pure fun and games. I find them to be quite entertaining [8-|]

Yes, I would love an "Ignore this thread forever" button. I ignore the threads that degenerate into theological bickering, even ones that I sense are headed in that direction. There is absolutely nothing to be gained or given by posting in them. The people that participate vehemently in such arguments are not spiritually mature enough to hear what anybody else is saying no matter how reasonable it is, so it's best to avoid such discussions altogether. Even posting "please stop this" doesn't help. Just leave them to their own devices and pray that they grow more mature in Christ somehow through some other venue. One very rare exception to this I saw yesterday on another site. It was a respectful disagreement between Orthodox, Catholics and Protestants about what constitutes the "true church" -- particularly led by two extremely brilliant rhetoricians with sharp minds and a gift with words and charitable hearts. And guided by what I think are the best guidelines I've ever seen for posting on a Christian forum, or any forum for that matter: http://merecomments.typepad.com/merecomments/2009/04/ground-rules.html. Would that we could all take some of this advice to heart.

Oh, but on the "How to Hijack a Thread" thread, the MVPs are constantly telling everyone to get back on topic, which is the whole point. The topic of the thread is to hijack it in as silly a way possible, so "getting back on topic" means stop following so dern logically from what the previous person was talking about. I think it's a fun way to get all of that punning and silliness out of our systems (this 666 thread and the 1000 club too) so that we can remain focused when we're answering questions on the other threads.

    Happy New Year to all, too. 666 --> 6 + 6 + 6 = 18 --> 1 + 8 = 9 ==> 666 ÷ 9 = 74 --> 7 + 4 = 11 --> 1 + 1 = 2 ==> 74 ÷ 2 = 36 --> 3 + 6 = 9, which means ?????     I noticed that earlier and wondered what was up.

Despite one post basically trying to keep the other thread focused on Logos (I suggested a good diverse library was what Logos was about), I pretty much deleted everything that came in from that one.  Had no use for such silliness.

Anyway, as a Southern Baptist Pastor, ordained in the Christian and Missionary Alliance and raised United Methodist and loved by my Russian Orthodox Grandmother, I love you brother and have appreciated our interaction on the forum.

I apologize to all of you who were offended by my participation in this thread. My immediate reaction to inflammatory posts is always to try to change the tone before extinguishing the fire. This was achieved with a possible exception of a person or two who do not see the inflammatory nature of their posts. Again, my apologies to all who were offended.

My goodness, like Joe said i was only poking fun at MVP's. Why use Damian's quote and not another found on this thread http://community.logos.com/forums/t/8259.aspx  because i have always found Damian to be level headed and not likely to sing get a refund! I thought some MVP would see the irony but to be taken seriously as i have been is totally missing the point! Sorry Damain, my attempt at a joke fell flat, no offence to you.

Like i said to Philip i was being cheeky & it says nothing of Damains intervention in another thread. However that said some are quick to say "stay on topic"! Do i care about this "stay on topic" thing? No. I hope i have clarified my position, that said this forum exit to discuss Logos software[;)]

Damian is bowing out of being an MVP? Damian mate as we would say in the UK i am sorry that my actions have been misunderstood and using your quote made it seem i was referencing your intervention which was not the case. I apologise at the way things have turned out - got this one wrong.

I would have penned you a private note had i your email but i don't. I hope you accept my apology. Look at your response so far to me using your quote, calm balance without heat and fire. That was the reason i used your quote instead of someone else who might have read all manner of evil into my comments.

Well, I've been very low key in these forums lately and knew nothing about the Thread every ones been talking about. I guess I've only really come on to answer a couple really quick questions and check up on how far these two degenerate threads have degenerated. One of the reasons I support such threads is that it gives a place to get the silliness out so that they are in threads people are looking for help in.

Regardless of whether you have a star under your name or not, please know that you have been a very valuable person on these forums, and I appreciate the comradery we have had.
