Workaround for Cited By crash

I have become quite dependent on the Cited By tool for writing my dissertation.

I primarily use it to look up Old Testament references in New Testament commentaries.

Since I had it set to "Sort results by book", L4 crashes when I attempt to open it.

Two questions:

1. Is there a way to change this setting so I can open the tool without it crashing? I haven't been able to find a way.

2. What is the difference between the using the Cited By tool and just using the Basic search tool to search for a reference? Will I get the same results by using a Basic search to search my commentaries on John for Isaiah 12:3 than I would by entering Isaiah 12:3 in the Cited By tool?

In answer to your first question, there are a couple of ways that I know of:

One way is this: use the passage guide and scrol down to the section on Parallel Passages. The Cross References section can also contain some jewels.

The second way is to open the resource Old Testament Quotations and Allusions in the New Testament by David a. Jones. Then put it in the same link set as your Bible.

TIP: I notice that just clicking on verses doesn't sync resources. But if you click on your verse in your Bible then use the right arrow key Logos4 will move to that verse in the next Bible in your prioritized list and sync all the other linked resources to that verse. Then use the left arrow key to get back to the Bible you were just in.

I'm uncertain of the answer to your second question, except that it would not let you sort your results by preferred resources, nor by book.

The setting for the CitedBy tool is in Logos4\Documents\{random}\UserPreferences\PreferencesManager.db

It's editable with the right tools. If you send the file to me I could put my Citedby Preference in there instead of yours, or I could give you instructions. You'd have to download some free software, then you get access to all the Logos4 settings - a bit like regedit but not as simple. Thanks for the suggestions. Sorry I wasn't clear in my request.

I'm not primarily interested in intraBiblical citations at this point. I've done that work.

I'm primarily trying to find references to Old Testament citations in secondary literature on John.

For instance, I know that John 4 possibly alludes to Isaiah 12:3.

What I need is to find the places in the Commentaries on John that allude to Isaiah 12:3.

I was using the Cited By tool to find all the references in those commentaries (BECNT, Pillar, ICC, NAC, Word, etc.) before the new beta broke it.

There is no difference.

Do a basic search for <bible = Isaiah 12:3>... you can limit this to a commentary collection.
