Screen goes black and projector goes blue

I have a Lenovo Thinkpad E520  and I am running Windows 7 Professional.  We just installed an EIKI LC-XGC500 projector.  When I try to connect to the projector through a VGA cable the monitor screen goes black and the projector screen tries to recognize it then I hear a "beep" and the projector screen goes back to blue.  The monitor screens stays black until I unplug the VGA cable.  I have set monitor settings to "Duplicate, Extend, and Projector Only", but it won't work on either one of the three.  

I'm sure this is a hardware issue with the computer and/or projector, but I'm dropping this in here in hopes that someone else has had this problem and might be able to over a solution.

We're trying to run Proclaim for the first time this Sunday, but it looks like it will be a no go unless we can find a way to project.

I'm sorry...you will have to delete your first post and wait another half hour before posting...you have violated the first principle of the "here comes the flood of Proclaim threads so it must be Sunday" rule...
