Later he mentioned his visit to a church and left his child in the children's division. They did not require signing the child in. It bothered him. Have mentioned that to the children's division leader at my church. We will be putting a sign in procedure for visiting children. That thought alone paid for my copy of the book. And that was just a statement he made in passing.

I'm 100% for high security where children are concerned. Wolves LOVE lambs...as a result they purposefully hang around "flocks".

"The Unbelievable Work...believe it or not."  Little children...Biblical prophecy is not Christianity's friend.

Looked this up on Amazon. Based on the subtitle of this book, I decided to read the 1's. To be sure, there aren't many, and the book is a solid 5 stars, which is hard to pull off when your book has more than a dozen or so reviews. But for me, the tornado sirens went off when I looked at the full title, and the first review here confirmed exactly what I would expect to gather from the book if I read it myself. I won't be reading it myself.

Sorry for taking so long but it took awhile to read the book.  I think that it has merit.

In the review you sited there is the statement:
"When 90% of a book is about production and maybe 10% about soul and formation, one doesn't have to wonder what values govern a specific church context."

In the book in question there are these statements:

"Our culture has grown increasingly uneasy with the idea of absolute truth. If there is a right way of doing things, then there’s a wrong way as well. Nobody wants to be wrong. So along with truth, sin becomes a casualty as well. But the New Testament is clear. We are not mistakers in need of correction. We are sinners in need of a Savior. We need more than a second chance. We need a second birth. "

"Jesus didn’t try to balance grace and truth. He didn’t water down the law. He didn’t put a condition on grace. He gave her a full dose of both."

"It is our misunderstanding of the grace Jesus modeled and taught that leaves us feeling as if grace allows people to “get by” with things. It is often our misapplication of truth that leaves people feeling condemned and isolated."

The books just says we have to teach all of the truth and all of grace.  No short cuts.  But we need do it in a sinner friendly way.

Yes, the book is 90% production But the part that would have been about  soul and formation would have turned off all that were of a different "faith" . He said that we had to teach the "TRUTH" but did not define truth in this book.

The tips in this book could be used in any "faith" that was willing to truly review the book.  Yes, maybe you have to "give in" on what music is played.  etc.

One tip [that will get nowhere in an established church] was to hire three people: one to write the lessons / sermons; one to present; and one to carry the discussion afterwards. [we don't hire actors that can write nor screen writers who can act]  That way you have the BEST lessons given by the BEST presenters.

Of course very little of what he writes will get into most churches. His ideal requires ALL of the church workers to be in place long before the others arrive in the parking lot.

I'm glad you are struggling through it David. Hopefully we will be able to provide constructive critique for the devs.

The results are in a thread in the faithlife beta

How do I add a comment into the middle of a chain?

Neither the forums nor faithllife are good discussion medians.

Without being able to insert a comment after any other comment discussions are difficult.

And then you also need to be able to skip some or most of the comments to comments to follow the general flow of the discussion.
