make some sub-headings and divisions or categories?

Examples of what you have in mind?

Orthodox Bishop Alfeyev: "To be a theologian means to have experience of a personal encounter with God through prayer and worship."; Orthodox proverb: "We know where the Church is, we do not know where it is not."

    Serious Request:

And let's face it we do need an anything goes lounge as well.  The hijacking thread among others is proof of it.  I'm really trying to behave myself on the rest of the board, but IMO it's the camaraderie that helps make this all work.

Hmm Sarcasm is my love language. Obviously I love you.

Yes, a forum for Suggestions would be great... oh wait, we have that forum [:$]  Seriously though, I find it ironic that you are asking for more sub-forums to keep things organized and you posted this in the wrong forum [:)]   No harm done, I just thought it was kinda funny.  Blessings.

    - Fixed that for you - we are now in the suggestions forum.

While these are all great topics, surely there are other established forums dedicated to these issues that would be a better avenue for discussing them?

While Logos products are great tools for researching these issues, the intent of these forums isn't to become a clearing house for all things Biblical. These forums are primarily focused around supporting and using Logos Bible Software products and we have plenty to discuss there without becoming a general discussion board.

    I agree, whole heartedly.

I agree, and I like it this way.  Even though I've been known to goof off quite a bit.  I am trying to control myself some, obviously I'm not always successful.

Which is why I renew my request for a "Serious Discussions Prohibited" forum.

We already have a "Serious Discussions Prohibited" thread. Is that not enough?[;)]

    David

Is it possible that what the original poster meant was that there are now thousands of threads on the forum and it is still hard to navigate.  We hear people condemning others for not remembering a post by Dan P or by someone else....we cannot find them....and most people dont read all the forums.

What if I have an OT resource and found some problem, bug...or there was a question about an OT resource...wouldn't it be nice if all forum discussions that pertain to OT resources be grouped together?  What if a forum member asked a question about downloading L4?  So many times the poster does not realize that the question has been asked already many times.  Wouldn't it be nice if all downloading L4 posts were able to be grouped together?  What about those posts about L4 crashing!  What insight one might gain if all those posts somehow were gathered together in one spot?  Or how about the videos?  I know there are places where videos are being posted, but wouldn't it be nice since users are posting videos, that there be a thread called videos?  And did you know there is a training manual for sale?  I stumbled upon it by peaking at the newbie thread.  If I had not done that, I never would have known there was an actual physical manual that could be obtained for L4.  I know one of the dedicated posters is now going to shoot a link to us to show that it has always been posted and that I am a geek for not realizing that.  But I did not realize that.

We have an L4 forum with only 2336 posts (as of my writing).  I think the intent of the original poster might have been that it would be nice to have subheadings for so many posts...organized a bit in order to find relevant posts someone might be looking for.  And yes, it would be helpful if there was a group called Off topic posts where such threads on hijacking etc can be neatly stored so we have the pleasure of seeing quickly who is responsible for adding to the huge number of posts that people have to wade through to find what they are looking for.

Now this may not have been the original poster's intent.  But it might have been his intent.  It might not be practical.  But it does show a bit of frustration one might have finding material needed in the forums.  The search function might be all that one can hope for.  I don't really know.

How about under each forum there be a new subcategory called...December posts, November posts, 2009 Posts etc.  Can you imagine how many posts there will be on the forum after two years of use?

    NOW we're talking.

My intent was to get this sort of discussion going...

    look ahead, plan ahead.

how will this look like over a year or two? make it work for the future.

If I may believe costumers service L4 is going to explode! It needs re-organizing, learn from other forums.

While I agree in principle to the need for organization, I'm not certain that the right organization schema has been hit in any of these posts.  Definitely NOT the archival suggestion of December, November, etc.  I've never been in a succesful forum that did that.

In fact one key aspect I've seen in every forum that I've participated in with success is that it branched slowly.

Right now we've seen this in action when Dave created the Mobile category.  That's where this thread and others like it is a success.

As far as searching these forums, I've all but given up on the built in search and I use google.

    SEARCHTERM site:community.logos.com

Will bring you a successful search of these forums on google.

It was just meant to get the ball rolling, and to help David understand the poster's original intent.  He apparently was not asking for a thread to discuss theology.  He was asking for more organization of the forum.  And in the spirit of Dave creating the Mobile category, perhaps now he has enough information to see what other categories could actually be created.

An even better search if you're looking for threads that mention a particular word in the Topic title is:

    intitle:SEARCHTERM site:community.logos.com

And combining multiple search terms (with a - prefix if necessary) narrows down the results.

Perhaps this also is in the wrong forum.  If so, sorry.  I also hope this does not hijack the thread.

Being new to the Logos forums, I've wondered about the purpose for some forums, including this one.  Is 'suggestions' for proposing new resources or new features or both or neither?  I've seen both types of suggestions posted both here and in the L4 forum.

Is there a directory somewhere that describes the stated purpose for each forum?  It would be handy for me if each forum had a sticky post that described its purpose, perhaps pointing to a master list of all forums and their purposes.

Yes, any suggestion for program improvement or resources is meant for this forum. It's like a suggestion box for anything Logos.

Hopefully the forum titles are enough to point one in the right direction. But there is no 'assigned seating' so to speak. If you ask something in the wrong forum, it will probably be answered there, and someone may suggest moving a topic from one to another. But it's all good.

Just don't answer a Mac question with a Windows answer (tried that a couple of times). That can get almost dangerous. [;)]
