Common English Bible
Does anyone know if Logos is planning on making the Common English Bible available?

It is odd not to have seen it offered… Maybe no abingdon Products till the New Interpreter's Bible is made…. LOL I know that is not the case but I can wish nothing more would get made till the NIB was made…. I won't say it;s a favourite but it's a fresh translation that reminds me of a marriage between the Jerusalem Bible and the NRSV (I just meant stylistically since YHWH is rendered as LORD as in most english versions).

I do have to think this through... The version is correct, of course ........... However, the modern "idiom" -- You're Hopeless! may possibly hurt this translation. It's getting late here in Eastern Canada; and I have a limo arriving to take me to Toronto Pearson at 6:45 a.m. .... so soon I'll think it through, eh??? *smile* Peace, Dan! Peace to all!

Great translation, I love how they weren't afraid to break with traditional renderings to better convey the meaning of the original language.
Check out how it renders the Lord's Prayer, imperatives and all. I love this.

Milford, we all know context is everything. I'm sure when she says you are hopeless that it is just another way she says she loves you!
As far as the CEB is concerned, I read it through recently and found it okay but I would not say it was one of my favourite versions. For instance translating πτωχοὶ τῷ πνεύματι as hopeless to me doesn't capture what the text says. At the same I it causes me to reflect on the passage more and I like translations that do that.

Mitchell, funny You'd mention that, the Lord's Prayer are the ONLY verses in CEB that I use! (I don't have it in any Bible study software, I took those verses from the internet and am converting it to a Personal Book.) Dan, I like the JB Reader's Edition very much, but the NRSV not at all (it's too mainstream, more so than the RSV which I use)! To support the idea of making JB available in Logos, go to: Jerusalem Bible or 1975 Bible In Order and post! You already have posted there, I meant others!Disclosure!

Before, say, 2004, I felt quite hopeless, though I was too caught up in sin to care much. I lived from momentary pleasure to momentary pleasure. I thought I was happy but...
I came to the breaking point.
The myriad of philosophies and pseudo-spiritual mirages that I traipsed through finally brought me to the point of giving up doing it myself anymore. I think this is the feeling that Jesus was referring to.
For me, Matt 5:3-12 is the conversion and Christianizing experience, with verse 3 being stage one and verse 11-12 the final stage.
So I support the translation "hopeless" on a functional equivalence basis.

I totally agree with you in this. I do appreciate translations and paraphrases that cause me to pause and think about the meaning of the text. Using the word hopeless in this translation does that which is good.
