I still do not see a huge contrast.

A perfectly valid (but unsound) argument.

    All cats are elephants.

    All elephants are purple polka-dotted.

Therefore, all cats are purple polka-dotted.

What's that got to do with our discussion anyway?

Absolutely nothing. Just making sure words are being understood as intended.[:P]

I see a contrast, but not a huge one.

Again, your point being...? Less generalities, please and more particulars, if you really want to engage and make an outing with your Hound.

At this point? Merely that I have learned a fair amount about how to communicate with you in the forums.

An insult? A compliment? Not that it matters. I don't see any discussion or engagement, despite all the high-falutin' terms like validity, truth, epistemology, fallacy. When that fails, discussion fails.

I'll sign off, and let the denizens and the magisterium rule.

    Graham, Peace and Blessing!              *smile*

Just a final word from me thanking you for your Original Post  ...    and thanking God for you   ........                                  after much thinking and pondering and meditating and reflecting on a number of items the last few days, I believe that I am an "improved" person because of our conversations             ............       I do feel I've grown a bit         *smile*

Hopefully, my final sharing with you, Brothers and Sisters, are the words of a hymn that has moved me greatly over the years ....

....  hope this resonates a bit with you ..

They cast their nets in Galilee
    just off the hills of brown;
    such happy, simple fisherfolk,
    before the Lord came down.

    Contented, peaceful fishermen,
    before they ever knew
the peace of God that filled their hearts
    brimful, and broke them too.

    Young John who trimmed
    the flapping sail,
    homeless in Patmos died,
Peter, who hauled the teeming net,
    head-down was crucified.

The peace of God, it is no peace,
but strife closed in the sod,
Yet let us pray for but one thing—
    the marvelous peace of God.

I'm a Confessional Lutheran, not Roman Catholic; however, as I was pondering these "things," I came across an interesting article from "Catholic Answers" that very likely would reflect the teachings on this matter of my own faith tradition.

I thought I'd share that also, and hope it's helpful, eh???

    Neither. A simple observation.

You unleash your Hound upon me, and make insinuations which are just a "simple observation".

I find that extremely lacking in courtesy and logic.

But since you and George rule here, so be it. Keep going with your tag team of cheap-shot deep-sounding put-downs on people who you think perhaps possess inferior intellect, but who you avowedly have no intention of offending. It could entertain some. Heck, you would make my list of "nutty professors" any day.

Logos Forum, keep encouraging in-house forum denizens like these, who can say whatever sweeping statement they want without fear or apology, put down people when their logic or communication style "fails", but who cannot tolerate the same insinuations and intellectual abuse they dish out.

    Sheesh!

I did not unleash my hound upon you. There was only one possible insinuation - a connection for you to make if it felt appropriate.. It was only the final statement which you asked if it was insult or complement, that I labeled a "simple observation".

I would have taken your Fallacy Hound seriously if we had gone into particulars. But no, just getting one of those just-sayin' if-you-like-it-fine-if-you-don't-like-it-fine cheap shot with high-sounding premises. Exactly what is wrong that you want to address? What "drives you nuts"? Bring it out. State your views, be on point. Don't hide behind "we's". Don't put words in my mouth. Don't label or broad-brush me. Don't insinuate that I am making some unspecified errors in formal logic or civility, be particular. Quote me if you wish. Shine light on that glob of "atrocious logic". Don't shoot into a tangent and make childish rejoinders when I ask you, the Mistress of the Fallacy Hound, exactly what ails you.

I invite you re-read the entire thread with care, and see if some of your unprovoked "observations" connect better with your Fallacy Hound.
