Considering Buying Logos 5, Have a few questions.
I am a Seventh-day Adventist and am interested in buying Logos 5. I just bought the commentary set on Amazon and installed it with the Libronix DLS system. I want to buy Logos 5 and have the books in Logos 5 instead. Is this possible?
I want to buy a Logos 5 Base Package, but as you know as a SDA I don't need most of the other books in the Base Packages so buying starter or Bronze is all I would need, but I would like to have some of the new advanced data sets like clause search etc...
What is your advice for me? I want to do this as inexpensively as possible. I have already downloaded and installed the Logos 5 engine.

Bronze would have included the most important datasets in itself, but as You've realized it contains a lot of unwanted titles - I've noticed that myself too! Starter + Minimal Crossgrade might be Your cheapest option.

. After that add Core Datasets or Minimal Crossgrade, whichever contains what You need!If You afford to, I would also recommend quickly placing a pre-order on Revised English Bible. It's done by Protestants, but they weren't Evangelicals. There was also one Jew on the OT translation team. It's the best Bible version for large parts of the Bible. It's the best for example for almost all the Pauline Epistles (I would just place the Romans Paideia by Matera above it when it comes to Ro).
Also, if You want the best Bible dictionary, place a pre-order on New Interpreter's Dictionary of the Bible, if You can afford it in the future! It's going to take some years to ship.
(Btw: the Church I've been attending the most within a year back in time rents the premises from an SDA Church. A bonus is that there's 230 Volts electricity, so I can bring with me one of my two laptops and take notes from the sermon, I always take notes on the laptop. I have a Barnes and Noble Nook HD too and it runs Logos, but so far I very rarely make notes in the books in it as I don't like typing without a real keyboard. I have ordered the keyboard http://www.trulyergonomic.com ... I'll use it for laptop, I don't have a desktop computer (nor do I have TV).)

Yes. Just make sure that the email address that you registered Libronix with, is the same one that you use in the Logos 5 engine.
Unix has covered your second question pretty well. Another sales rep that I use is Dave Kaplan. Thanks for the Advice all. I may take the path to the Starter + Crossgrade. I was looking at that, but did not know if that was a viable option or If I had to be upgrading from Logos 4 to Logos 5. I have the SDA Bible commentary set extended with EG White writings in it on the Logos 3 system. Is there a good upgrade path from that, or is it best just to upgrade with Starter + Crossgrade? Since they are not in on Sunday, I will contact one of the two reps on Monday. I will explore all the options you gave me.
I now use WordSearch 10. and have been reasonably pleased with it as a Bible program, but have wanted to make a way to get the EG White books in it. That's where Logos comes in with the SDA Bible Commentary set and EG White's Writings. Can Someone please assure me that it is worth spending ~$500.00 on Logos 5 because of its value to a Seventh-day Adventist Bible student. This is a very big investment for a SDA Layman if my assumptions about EG Whites writings being indexed within the Logos system are incorrect. If I am correct this could be the most useful Bible Study/SOP Study tool ever available. I was really impressed with the video on the upgrade page "What's New in Logos 5" especially the "Clause Search" "Timeline", and "Topic Guide" datasets.

another option is getting the L4 Crossgrade and then the L5 one - see http://wiki.logos.com/Upgrade_or_Crossgrade for a review of the options.
The NIV 2011 is available in Logos at https://www.logos.com/product/8787/new-international-version.
earlier versions are no longer available (apart from the uk version of NIV '84) and, as you have noted, they are no longer included in base packages.
i think this was a publisher decision.

If you purchased the Libronix version of the Sda Bible Commentary Expanded Edition I think it comes with the NIV. Check before you buy.

I tend to use another plan to purchase items, only buy what I am going to use.
I purchased L3's original language package, cross-graded to L4, and now I use the L5 free engine, I have purchased the books that I would use. While my cost per book is higher, the amount of money that I have spent at Logos is by far lower than purchasing one of the packages, and I have a library that is full of items that I know, trust, and use.

I think only you can answer that question because only you have an idea on how often you will be using those resources.

While I am not Martin, I personally would not recommend a base package (including the starter package). I would recommend Logos 5 Minimal Crossgrade (http://www.logos.com/product/28376/logos-5-minimal-crossgrade). I do believe you will also need to crossgrade to L4 first (http://www.logos.com/product/28576/logos-4-minimal-crossgrade). I would then buy the items that you would use.0 -

By the way I'm in now! I called Logos this morning and talked to the Sales Rep. I told him what I wanted and he worked out a Deal that was better than what I had imagined.
I explained that I really didn't want the other commentaries etc... other than the SDA one and the other books and studies were also of little interest to me, but I said I wanted all the advanced Data Sets like Clause search etc... He said that the cheapest way to do it was to buy the Starter package and then get the Crossgrade with the Data Sets in it.
I 'm not sure they want me to say the price here in the forum, so I won't, but let me say that after buying the Starter Base Package at a 10% discount, I got the Crossgrade for about 1/5th of the advertised price for that Item alone, because they only charge for the Items that the Starter Base Package doesn't contain and that only amounted to about 1/5th of the stated price of the Crossgrade.
So in my opinion that is the way to go. The cheapest way in to Logos 5 with all the bells and whistles.
Now it's time to Study!!

I hope this post is useful for others who don't know what to expect when buying in to Logos. I will post again after a couple weeks to add how satisfied with what I bought I am, and if I would recommend any other course for SDAs buying in.

Mine still has not arrived from the OKC ABC. I ordered July 3rd. I finally gave them a call (figuring it was on back order) and got a recording telling me they are at a conference and also in the middle of relocating their store. Lucky me. Price was right, tho'.

Some years ago I purchased the Platinum and downloaded a free, huge database. I have other series (Calvin, Spurgeon, etc). In retrospect, I would not get the large collections because it makes searching through unused volumes, updating, and indexing slower. But the maps and timeline are useful. I think your decision is a good one.
Since Marty Weber is aggressively working the Adventist material, Logos is going to prove to be increasingly valuable. Each upgrade sees good improvement. It is a very complex program and expect to invest some time in learning it. It will be time well spent.

Phil, I'm glad you said that. In my old Bible Software that was also the case. The search tool brings up so many things that I have no intention of reading. Even the starter library I did get is large and turns up so many results on a search that it can be overwhelming. I will have to find a way to block some resources or put them on the back burner. This is a steep learning curve, but I think it will pay off in the long run. Thanks for your input Phil, any other tips are welcome.
I can't wait to see what Martin Weber (Logos) has coming for the SDA community.

I would suggest making a collection/collections of resources that you do want to get results from and perform searches limited to those collections. Here is a link to the wiki on making collections: http://wiki.logos.com/Collections

That is a very good and valid point. Unfortunately most of us can only do an occasional search like that!
What I do now is working very well for me. I seldom use the built-in, pre-packaged searches. As someone mentioned above, I have the collections I use such as Ellen White, Illustrations, Reformation, English Bibles, etc,. and get searches for specific resources. I now purchase for certain resources. I expect I'll make an Adventist resources section.
