Handouts very BUGGY

I like the idea of the handout tool, but...

I tried to create a handout for Acts 20:1-6 and simply rearranging the items several times caused the application to crash.

I tried to create a handout for Acts ch. 20 and the system simply froze up.

I tried to create a blank handout and asked it to add Paul's Third Missionary Journey and the application crashed.

Further, when the handout tool copies Bible passages it does not show the verse #. I consider this to be a problem.

I have also not been able to findout how to manage the number of pages in a handout. Sometimes if I try to add content it includes it, and sometimes not. Shifting content around causes the tool to remove other content from the handout. This is unusable.

There are many problems with Handouts and Thomas will probably chime in with his perspective too.

Your crashes concern me though. They shouldn't be happening.

What are your system spec's (OS, CPU, RAM, free HDD space, Video RAM, etc.)?

Are you running L4 via a Mac port, or on a dedicated Windows machine?

FWIW, I experience the same issue of Logos 4 crashing, typically when I try to add something. It hasn't locked the system, but L4 goes poof!

There's nothing in your system spec's that account for the crashing with the Handout tool.

Because of the other issues you mention - especially the difficulty in customizing it, I don't use it, and thus haven't seen the crashing issue.

I'm calling this a bug and noting that in the tag to this thread. Hopefully a programmer will see it and pursue this further.

In the meantime, if you could enable logging and post a log here of the program crashing that could be helpful.

Hi thanks for the report, I cannot repro on my side whatsoever, so please follow Richard's last post about diagnostic logging and post a log here so we can narrow down the problem.

Ok thanks for doing that. This issue has been reported and may already be fixed in a beta, I wasn't able to reproduce it in 4.0a Beta 5.

It looks like you received an updated excerpts resource which was not meant for SR-7, that has been pulled. There is no easy work around for this but upgrading to 4.0a will do the trick. 4.0a is in its final beta stages and will be released in the next 1-2 weeks.

Richard is right, Handouts is kind of my pet item. That's one way to put it. I love what they could be but I end up with a headache every time I use them. Sigh.

Unfortunately there is a lot of version number dependency issues introduced in this switch and an investigation for a fix would not be worth it because of the late stage of the beta, so I wasn't even told how we could resolve this.

Well you're welcome I guess.. I was advised to inform users to not switch to the beta at this point, perhaps I should have stated it that way.

I agree with handouts being buggy--I tried opening a blank one, then clicked inside it and Logos4 crashed. After a _long_ time, the Vista bug reporter told me:

I LOVE the potential of these handouts too but find their current limitations frustrating. I just want to chime in and encourage Logos to continue working on this feature. When it is fleshed out a little bit it will be another powerful ministry tool. I would love full Word edit export capability so I can the auto generated book as a starting point for something more.
