[request] Bug in Exegetical Guide - Logos Bible Software 5.1a Beta 2 (5.1.1.0578)

I'm betting this is a bug in the released version, too, but since I'm on beta I'll report for beta.
I've searched the forums for "Exegetical Guide Bug" & found nothing similar on the 1st page of results. So here goes...
- Open EG to Isaiah 1:1–20
- Adjust Word by word settings:
- Show only lemmas occurring 30 times or fewer
- Show only these parts of speech (no checkboxes checked; I'll click on the words I want to investigate)
- Only the 1st 15 verses are displayed.
- If it isn't already, maximize the window to avoid any display problems.
Here's the bug: If Logos wants to speed things up by displaying only a few verses at a time of the requested passage, It's ok with me to call that a "feature." (I'd personally like an option to skip it!) But I've found no way to get to vv. 16-20 short of keying in a new passage. Inability to display all the requested passage? That's a bug, not a feature.
Grace & Peace,
Bill

Hi Bill
http://community.logos.com/forums/p/71054/495125.aspx has this as a known limitation.
According to http://community.logos.com/forums/t/19222.aspx Logos see / saw this as a design feature

This has been discussed before. It's considered a limitation, not a bug:

In all the posts of the threads cited, ONLY MVPs have said it's a design feature. There isn't a Logos post in the bunch. Even so, for the software to FAIL to give EITHER an error message OR a link to a next page of the report with another 15 verses----that's a BUG.
In no other software would we tolerate that kind of behavior. We shouldn't have to here, either. That's just sloppy coding, & the Logos I know & love would NEVER leave sloppy coding in place like that.
So as lovingly as I can say it, Logos, PLEASE consider the software's failure to give EITHER an error message saying we've exceeded the max verses that can be generated OR a link to a next page of the report with the remainder (or another 15) of our verses as a BUG. And fix it. [:)]
Blessings!
Grace & Peace,
Bill

If this is a feature, who does it benefit, and why?

It populates pretty quickly, why the limit. If this is a feature, then give us the more button. Someone with a fast computer may wish to run the entire chapter.

A work around would be to sync the exegetical guide with the Bible.

Interesting wiki article at http://wiki.logos.com/Bug$3a_Exegetical_Guide_$22Word_by_Word$22_limited_to_15_verses
Last update from Bradley where he states "by-design – this is to prevent performance and memory use problems when running on a large passage"
This was three years ago so whether the constraints are still valid is another question.

Just ran 15 verrses in 1 Cor. 15 and it populates easy enough. I am running on 4 GB of Ram. Have Chrome open, three tabs, and the Bible along with the Exegetical guide.
The system is still responsive.

I believe a "More" button, suggested by a few eminent forum folks, is a better design decision. Add to that an option for "Show: 15 verses", "30 verses" etc. somewhere.

A more button would be one fix to the bug....
Personally, I'd like a more button WITH user control of how many verses to include. (Let us key in the number.)
Either way, it'd no longer be a bug at that point, regardless of which way Logos chose to go.

FWIW, The link to "by design" takes me to a page that says "Not Found"... Bradley's post isn't listed, even in the page at the link on exegetical guide verse limits near the bottom of the page... so at this point MVPs still look like the only voice saying the current design is a "feature." LOL

This was three years ago so whether the constraints are still valid is another question. He's the author of the "status" message.

The important link is the wiki article, which was last edited by Bradley (click on the history tab to see). He's the one that added the "status" info.
I think the "by design" link is in error.
I agree about adding a more button.

Sorry about that - that wasn't intended to be a link, it just appeared[:$]

I love this idea - seems to handle all situations well.

Please note that not all MVPs believe this to be a "feature". Some of us see it as design failure. The addition of a "More" button would be an acceptable enhancement.
Personally, however, I would not attempt to run the EG with that many verses.

Thanks for the reply, Jack. And peace, brother... wasn't trying claim all MVPs did... was really commenting that up till now Logos hasn't weighed in--at least in this thread.
I understand that some wouldn't attempt EG with that many verses. If you'll try the way I've run it (no real results until you click on a word in the language text), it's minimal impact to processing time. No real report until you request it, & then only by word of interest... It makes it pretty handy to have the entire PASSAGE for this Sunday ready & available for a word study. [:)]

Interesting method. Perhaps I will alter my EG and follow that procedure, but that would damage the reputation of us old codgers who are inflexible and will not change, even when it will make things easier and more efficient [;)]

Logos 6.2 still has design limit of 15 verses without a more button nor a settings option to specify number of verses, which could be a choice under lemma filtering. When lemma filtering is used, then allow number of verses to be increased.
Keep Smiling [:)]

Development is not planning to make the change at this time, but we have noted the suggestion.
