.mp4 and .mov files on Windows computer

I am having some major issues playing .mp4 and .mov files on a Windows Vista machine...like they won't play!

We had been having some big issues with the computer overall (that's another story) and so we wiped the hard drive and reinstalled the OS. However, we were able to play all video types with no issue before the restore.

What drivers do I need to install in order to be able to play the .mp4 and .mov files? I have downloaded Quick Time and the videos play fine in Windows, just not in Proclaim. Do I need to download Quick Time Alternative? What codecs do I need! HELP!

I assume you're trying to play videos in Proclaim locally? Uploading them to our server should avoid that issue.

You need to be sure to have the latest version of Windows Media Player. If a video cannot play in WMP then it cannot be played in Proclaim.

Also be sure to run all available Windows Updates.

That's great for videos that are under the data cap. We had a couple videos from mission trips this past month that were way beyond the data cap. What options do I have foe videos like that?

Let me give you my $.02 worth. In my opinion, Proclaim does a terrible job at syncing videos across platforms (Mac to PC) because of one issue: transcoding. If you have mp4 or mov files on Windows (which are truly Mac files that don't work well with Windows Media Player), I would suggest using a software program to convert those videos to WMV files at a high quality. Only then when you upload them for syncing TO at Windows machine will the files not be transcoded but will be downloaded on the Windows machine and will work. I have found that I must convert all my mp4/mov files to WMV on my Mac BEFORE uploading to Proclaim or the quality of the audio and video are no where near up to par for my personal liking. I want clear audio and clear video and that's the only way. My suggestion then is to convert those files to WMV at a good/great quality before importing them into Proclaim.

Also, if they are above the data cap, by converting them to WMV, it will also allow you to play them locally, thus eliminating the need for an upload to Proclaim's servers.

Thanks, Josh! That's pretty much what's happening. I'm on a Mac, everything else at the church is Windows. However, we had a mp4 file not play from Adobe Premiere in Windows. I'm thinking the issue for us was Windows Vista. We tried to play the same videos in Proclaim on a Win 7 machine and they played just fine. So...that's what I'm thinking right now... Kinda frustrating, but it's where we are.
