Perhaps no Christian group in the world is more culturally and ethnically diverse than Seventh-day Adventists. The quest for racial equity has been a long journey. What is the next step toward complete unity in the Spirit? Many Adventists, particularly young adults, cannot understand why segregated local conferences are still considered necessary. They wonder why many older members—even among African American leaders—still support “regional conferences.”

It’s an important discussion. To facilitate informed dialog among Seventh-day Adventists and others interested in SDA history, Logos Bible Software is preparing the release of the historic documents associated with formation of regional conferences—a three-volume set going back to 1937. Their publication will facilitate assessment of regional conferences in the 21st century, where post-partisan ethnicity is a core value, even in secular society.

Whatever your convictions on this controversial and consequential subject, you will be better prepared to defend (or adjust) your views after a firsthand look at these historic document set titled “Regional Conference Origins.” Understanding their past will help Adventists everywhere discern how to move forward into the future.
