Help a noob with a lexicon.

The couple years that I have used Logos I have somehow managed with some clicks and paper dictionaries. I have used the program like an e-reader and I am not sure if I have learned all the mechanics. I would like to know better how to use lexicons.

I can come up with a few solutions:

1) I click a word in BHS and it will show up in my preferred lexicon. If I have links to open panels the exact verse word will be highlighted in the lexicon if it is mentioned.

2) Right click a word, select a lemma and choose dictionary.

3) Change to a hebrew keyboard and type some hebrew characters in to the page field.

4) Open a basic search, choose lemmas and type something like h:ym and then choose correct form from drop down menu:

I like the way I can do it in the A-program. In the A-program there is a search field in the upper part of a lexicon, I don't have to open a separate search window. When I study hebrew I like how electronic dictionaries make my studies faster but I want to leave some thought process for me. I can't come up with any hard form that I couldn't parse quickly, but say, I wanna parse the verbal form wayyiben. I can start by just typing normal latin characters without any h: or changing keyboards. I first type bnn (no luck), then byn (wrong verb) and then the correct bnh. I can choose from the search field if I want to search hebrew or aramaic , I don't have to open two separate Halots. The program just recognises latin characters and if the root ends into a bgdkp-consonant the program itself makes it an end-form. Is there something as convenient in Logos that I have not learned to use?

Someting I wonder as well is how can I search syriac lexicons on iPad. I believe there is no s: and Ipad doesn't have syriac keyboard?

Yes, there is a search field in the lexicon.

Logos operates differently. Have you used the Context menu on a Hebrew or Aramaic word, because then you can choose which lexicon to open or you can launch a Search of a resource for the word or its morphology?

I think I am trying to use the lexicon as I would use a paper version. I guess I am just crazy but I want to do the middle way: I don't want to click the word to go straight to the lexicon but I don't want to manually go trough the table of contents.

When I have decided a possible candidate for the root in my head I then try different three radical roots in to the search field plus the possible affixes.

I see בעד so it's probably the arabic equivalent baʿdu but theoretically it could also consist of preposition ba + ʿed, so I check first ba and the afterwards baʿad. I know it's stupid but I think that way. I don't want to go straight to the correct form by clicking the word.

Id like to just type in some field in latin: ktb, mktb, ktyb ... and not too sure if I can somehow do it. Typing in latin into the page field > no changing of keyboards, I can keep my separate transliteration keyboard for the notes whole the time, no separate search window: I can just keep two windows open BHS and lexicon.

No, you can't be crazy because I have a corner on that market. [;)] If you're a beginner in Hebrew there is nothing crazy about that since it will eventually sink in and provide you with a better understanding of the way roots are developed into words. Just clicking on a word to bring up the lexicon may be faster and easier, but you won't learn much in the process.

If you are using the search field I circled in the previous post, you will not be able to type in Latin characters (even with an "h:" preceding) and have it understood as a Hebrew root. You will need to change keyboards. I have my machine set up so that <lft-alt, shift, 1> is English, <lft-alt, shift, 2> is Greek, <lft-alt, shift, 3> is Hebrew and <lft-alt, shift, 4> is Syriac. It works well and isn't difficult or time-consuming.
