Balky responses to mouse

Here are some very preliminary observations. 

The program's resposnses to a mouse click, mouse movement or other mouse enabled tasks (e.g., dragging, scrolling, etc.) seems consistently slow, resulting in a "balky" feel. 

Resizing windows seems very difficult.

The default color scheme makes it difficult to distinguish among windows and the buttons that affect the window content.

The first time I opened the program it did for me too. But while it is still not a speed demon, I just opened it for a second time and it seems more responsive now.  My indexing is still not fully complete either.
