from the Book of Common Worship - Presbyterian Church USA and Cumberland Presbyterian Church to help fill and mainline Protestant gap ... the book itself would also be appreciated.
Book of Common Worship - Presbyterian Church USA
I have this book in hardback and can not figure out how it is used. Can you recommend a resource to understand the use of lectionaries in worship service? ("Lectionaries for Dummies?")
I have only visited a Catholic Mass once. I have never visited a Lutheran, Presbyterian or Episcopal church and am totally lost in understanding their services.
am totally lost in understanding their services.
You are correct that there is a quite different understanding of the purpose of the services. First think of their services as having 2 parts: the first is drawn from the synagogue service, the second from the Lord's supper. Toss in a Jewish daily prayer service as an option if the Lord's Supper is not celebrated. Allow 2000 years of inculturation and you have just described the services of all the liturgical and semi-liturgical churches.
My recommendations for understanding the different mind set ... and therefore making sense of the ritual books.
If you read these 3 short and easy books in this order, I think things will fall into place.
Yes. Thank you. I will put this on the list of Reformed resources to acquire. This is definitely something we want to get in Logos.
